ucusty (1871), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Aug 9, 2007 pours a really nice dark amber. creamy, with foamy head and light lacing. roasted malt on the nose. sweet malty flavor. slight hop finish Hazmatt (363), Virginia, USA Aug 8, 2007 Bottle. Beautiful burgundy amber color. Nice looking full head with mild lacing. Aroma of toasted crystal malt. Clean simple caramel flavors dominate. Subtle hop notes balance the maltiness. Excellent and smooth drinking beer. BustedFlat (552), Edina, Minnesota, USA Aug 7, 2007 500 ml bottle. Mug. Mahogany with a decent tan head. Aroma of malt and cocoa. Taste has notes of coffee, dark chocolate and roast malt. It was a bit thin and watery for my taste though. kmweaver (2396), Sebastopol, California, USA Aug 4, 2007 500mL bottle. Pours a clear, cherry cola color; off-white head with decent lacing. Plenty of dried cherries and fresh malts in the aroma; syrupy and dense. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: dense dried fruits, caramel, and nougat; intense chewy maltiness that manages to (somehow) seem balanced and drinkable without any prominent show of bitterness; really tasty. Lengthy, chocolate and toasted malt finish, with the slightest show of citrus bitterness. Beerdedone (1873), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 7, 2007 Bottle sampled. Pours a bronze color with a small white head. Aroma of toasted grain, roasted malts and sweet barley. Flavor was very refreshing with hazelnut, caramel, honey, and some dark fruits with a light bitterness finish. A very good dunkel. eaglefan538 (2355), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Jun 23, 2007 Well, the last three dunkels I’ve had are all good stuff, this at the top, probably THE top of all dunkels tasted by me. Appearance was clear coppery brown, nice two finger head, great retention, solid lacing. The aroma was bread, light earthiness, nuts, some roast. The flavor was firm and pleasing nuts, roasted malts, coffee, finishing with a touch of bready/earthy/slightly grassy dryness. Some fruity tones appear on the tongue after the dry roasted nuts and coffee leave, but not firmly so. The mouthfeel was moderate for the style. A dunkel rich in flavor, depth like a schwarz, but lighter and more drinkable as a dunkel. Nice stuff, Aying. WeeHeavySD (2941), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Jun 21, 2007 Beer 69 Summer 2006 trip in Europe. Drank on 711/06 on tap @ Ayinger in the Brew pub room. Very nice smooth finishing dunkel probably one of the best Dunkels I had on the trip. LinusStick (1831), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 18, 2007 Dark brown with a nice 2 finger white head. Nice carbonation. Has a lot of dark fruit and malt but the sweetness is kept in line by the bubbles. Some Sugar Daddy in the background and a little bitterness in the aftertaste. I love Ayinger beers even though I can’t pronounce most of them.
