maniac (2628), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jun 8, 2007 Clear ruby body with a medium creamy light brown head. Sweet light molassas aroma. Sweet molassas flavor with a nutty background. thegreenrooster (1811), St.louis, Missouri, USA Jun 5, 2007 Pour is a dark brown with a white head. Aroma is very nice with hints of nuts and roasted malts. Flavor is excellent. Lots of dark fruits(plum and dates) with some toffee and sweet caramel. Wow a good example of this style and one that is quite affordable. leeburg (147), Juneau, Alaska, USA Jun 3, 2007 500mL as pictured. Amber pour with some red colors as the light hit it. One-finger white head that bubbled actively and diminished fairly quickly. Scent of sweet malt, raisin, caramel, toffee, banana and other fruits. Roastier on the taste, with very little bitterness and a sweet cream finish. Crisp clean aftertaste. Enjoyable indeed. johndoughty (2150), cheslyn hay, West Midlands, England May 27, 2007 Bronze with no carbonation. Bronze appearance and pleasant enough to drink. No better than slightly above average but still one I would try again. mlist55 (210), media, Pennsylvania, USA May 25, 2007 Wonderful dark color, sweetish malty aroma backed with some hops. Flavor is as good as I’ve ever had in a dark lager of its strength. Caramelly, roatsty, and slightly sweet, but never cloying. A winner.
tennisjoel (931), Shakopee, Minnesota, USA May 24, 2007 Red brown pour with an off white creamy head. Nose of toffee, vanilla, plum, oak...very nice. Flavor is bready, fairly smooth on the palate, slight smokiness and dark roast as well. Easy to taste. The finish is a little thin, otherwise this is a pretty darn good brew here. joe1510 (501), Illinois, USA May 24, 2007 500ml Bottle

Ayinger’s Altbairisch Dunkel poured a crystal clear caramel brown with quite a few tiny rising carbonation bubbles. A 2 finger head formed on the pour and then receded to a half finger of frothy tan head. Leaves moderate lacing after each sip.
Smells of mouthwatering toasted grains and a very solid caramel backbone. A splash of cream is in the mix as well. This is a hearty smelling brew. I can pull out a very small amount of hops if I try hard enough.
Taste is big on bread dough. The caramel comes through rich and slightly sweet. Nice lightly toasted grain flavor compliments things nicely. Mild creaminess comes through as well.
Medium bodied and perfectly creamy. Velvety smooth mouthfeel.
This is a very easy drinker. I could definately se myself sipping on these all night long with no problem. Smooth and creamy without being filling.
Another winner from Ayinger. I haven’t tried one of their offerings yet that I haven’t truly enjoyed. Very good beer.
3/15/07 RCL (1443), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA May 23, 2007 Aroma of caramel with a hint of cocoa. Exceedingly drinkable with notes of date in the flavor.
