Sweet, very bready, coffee cream nose, bit nutty. Dry, chestnut taste with background sweetness. Finish also very dry, gum, woody. Medium bodied, a tad of dry-out effect. Very good Dunkel, definitely one of the best on the market. Aroma-filled, very sturdy at the same time. pnista (1008), Bloomington, Indiana, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 24, 2007 Pours a toasty dark amber with a big tan head, thinning rapidly, probably from my eating. The nose is sweet, really really sweet. Sticky sweet malt, very heacy on caramel and toffee. A hint of chocolate-like roast. Theres some fruit too. The palate is very middling for a lager. Not refreshing and liquidy, yet not full of substance. It’s good on the carbonation front, and nice, but just not to style. The flavors are a bit better. Still very very very sweet. Big toffee, a little bit of butter, some lite chocolate and roast. The finish is creamy and smooth, the aftertaste has an aspartame like sweetness to it. Not bad, but not quite my cup of tea, this needs something more than these subtle haulertau-like hops to balance it out. troopie (866), USA

Flavour of malt and toast, no coffee notes at all. Mediciney notes among the finish with the fruit. It was OK, but there are many better dunkels around. colortheorist (12), Somerville, Massachusetts, USA

The taste was certainly respectable...but maybe too mature, crisp. It smelled like bread a bit. It didn’t taste like coffee, but I felt thats what I was drinking. Just a bit boring, but obviously good. Wegro (220), Fresno, California, USA

Nice bready/doughy flavor with a tiny bit a caramel sweetness in the finish. Mouthfeel is light and moderately carbonated. Nice and refreshing. More bready flavors as it warms. I was going to say it’s really good for the style, and the style percentage happens to be 99%, so maybe I’m on to something. Stine (1380), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA

Strong aroma of brown rice and bread crust with some fruit and cinnamon tones underneath. A little wheat leads the flavor, succeeded by a dark grain taste, peat, honey and molasses; sweetened, sugar dipped unleavened bread of the heavier variety. Crispy and medium in the mouth. Bread in a bottle. JB175 (1662), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 13, 2007 Brown in color with a fairly substantial head. Roasty aroma with bits of grain, sugar, and dark fruits. Roasted, bready-cereal taste with plenty of good malt. Enough sweetness to make it good, but not overdone. I’m newer to the style, but I do like this one. Lowe1983 (1029), Fairborn, Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 30, 2007 Pours a brownish amber color with a brown head. Aroma is of dark fruits, caramel, roasted malts, chocolate, and some nuts. A very malty flavor with roasted malts, chocolate, and caramel. There’s some dark fruits on the finish as well. I enjoyed this brew.
