Commercial Description:
Dark chocolate in color, you can see a wonderful reflection if you hold it up to the light. It is round and soft with the warm, sweet aroma of freshly roasted malted barley. A satisfying, malty taste, with coffee-ish tones and a hint of plummy fruitiness in the finish. Complex and beautifully balanced.

Bottle. I wasn’t impressed. The taste was certainly respectable...but maybe too mature, crisp. It smelled like bread a bit. It didn’t taste like coffee, but I felt thats what I was drinking. Just a bit boring, but obviously good.

Sort of stale bread aroma. Nice bready/doughy flavor with a tiny bit a caramel sweetness in the finish. Mouthfeel is light and moderately carbonated. Nice and refreshing. More bready flavors as it warms. I was going to say it’s really good for the style, and the style percentage happens to be 99%, so maybe I’m on to something.

Pours to a luminescent, fiery red. Strong aroma of brown rice and bread crust with some fruit and cinnamon tones underneath. A little wheat leads the flavor, succeeded by a dark grain taste, peat, honey and molasses; sweetened, sugar dipped unleavened bread of the heavier variety. Crispy and medium in the mouth. Bread in a bottle.

Brown in color with a fairly substantial head. Roasty aroma with bits of grain, sugar, and dark fruits. Roasted, bready-cereal taste with plenty of good malt. Enough sweetness to make it good, but not overdone. I’m newer to the style, but I do like this one.

Pours a brownish amber color with a brown head. Aroma is of dark fruits, caramel, roasted malts, chocolate, and some nuts. A very malty flavor with roasted malts, chocolate, and caramel. There’s some dark fruits on the finish as well. I enjoyed this brew.

Bottle: Pours a clear brownish red with a huge sized off white head that lingers around for a while. Aroma is fruity with some definite malt characteristics, sugary, and somewhat nutty. Taste is clean but a little clotting, some caramel malts, a light acidic stinging, a dark fruitiness, and almost grainy. This beer ends with a lingering malt bitterness on the palate. Overall, A decent dunkel, definitely not the best I’ve ever had of the style.

This pours a nice deep nut brown with a small head. Very fragrant coffee aromas hit your nose as soon as you bring the glass to your face. Also a very strong smoky coffee flavor with a sweet taste of cherries and plums. Also hints of licorice and brown sugar. Different than a lot of beers i’ve had, but not bad at all. I got used to the strong flavors after a few sips and thoroughly enjoyed the rest.

bottle shared with brie... Pour is dark red with a small off white head that lightly clings to the glass. The flavor is all molasses and coffee. The carbonation and alcohol make the mouthfeel crisp, and the finish is all sweet malt. I loved this one. It is different than other dunkels that I have had. I will purchase this tasty beer again.
