benpickens (129), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Jan 13, 2007 Dark reddish brown with a creamy head that diminshed quickly. Rich raisin bread and caramel aromas. Rough and biting entry with pronounced malt and a spicy hoppy finish. unclemattie (2370), Georgia, USA Jan 3, 2007 500mL bottle. Heavy aroma of smoke. Smells of smoked salmon. Very dark reddish brown. almond colored head. Flavors of chocolate and mixed berries, with smoke. I really enjoy this brewery but... This beer is perfectly balanced and has of ton of layers. ONIONS HAVE LAYERS... Not very pleasant. Poperinge (359), Cowtown, Alberta, Canada Dec 31, 2006 Updated: Mar 11, 2007Haven’t had a bad brew from this brewery yet. I had this on tap and in the bottle. Frist one I had on tap was at Pike. Page 31 of MJ’s GBG. 199 of his 500 Classic Beers to go. roccotool (25), USA Dec 29, 2006 Bottle. Aroma-A fragrant breeze wafting over from Germany itself. Appearance-Warm and brown, with a two-finger head. Large bubbles that quickly fizzle out, like kids playing with soap in a Mr. Turtle Pool. Flavor- A delightful and pleasing blend of malt and hops, joyously dancing and as compatible as Bacall/Bogey. Palate-Smoothness like a cheerleader’s skin, with the chocolate whisper that shoots through at the sultry finish. Definitely a session beer or one to celebrate a victory with. tronraner (1905), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Dec 13, 2006 Bottle. Pours brownish burnt orange with tight beige head. The aroma is creamy with light chocolate, faint blackberry, some caramel, and a light grassiness. The flavor is sweet caramel up front, then hints of sweet chocolate and something vaguely reminiscent of heavy cream. The finish has a bourbon air about it with some dark-honey-like sweetness. Bread comes out once in a while throughout. The aftertaste is malty. The mouthfeel is a little thinner than I would like, but honestly not as thin as I was expecting. JK (2945), Richfield, Minnesota, USA Dec 8, 2006 This was very good. Light maltly aroma that reminded me of a Vienna. Black and a small head; nothing remarkable about the appearance. Flavor was a pleasant surprise, it had bitter malt and more smoke than I have ever picked up in this style, so much so it might fairly be called a smoked beer. Looking at the score I shouldn’t have been expecting anything unpleasant, but this greatly exceeded my expectations. Retorp (2154), Tampa, Florida, USA Dec 3, 2006 Courtesy of Santa.

The body of this beer is a ruby/amber mix that goes from daker to lighter top to bottom. The head is nearly two fingers thick, frothy and light tan in color.

Aroma is light and malty with some mild toasty and faint brown sugar-ish notes.

Toasty again in the fore then sweet powdered malt, brown sugar, toasty bread and a light caramel flavor. Very relaxed beer that has that awful subtlety curse. Balanced sweetness and a nice lightly cartbonated mouthfeel. talon1117 (612), Bellvue, Colorado, USA Dec 3, 2006 Pour is clear and amber-brown in color; head is off-white, mostly full, and fizzy, yet still creamy and somewhat lasting with some random lace. Nose is nutty chocolate with some plum and maybe some toasted bread. Flavor is toasty and nutty with some chocolate and bread and an apple character, with some coffee somewhere in the flavor. Noble hop noted faintly with a bitterness to balance. Palate is medium to light, moderate carbonation, and a mouthfeel that is somewhere between creamy and dry. Finishes quickly and mostly dry with chocolate bready notes and some faint noble hops. Not as dry and with more fruitiness than other dunkels, but overall, a nice offering.
