Capa (955), Yokosuka, Japan Mar 15, 2006 Updated: Sep 9, 2007Pours a nice brown color with a large fizzy head that diminishes quickly. Has an aroma of sweet malts, coffee and caramel. Flavor is malty. Slight smokiness to it along with caramel and dark fruits. The mouth is fairly thin and fizzy but refreshing as well. Pretty good. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA Mar 9, 2006 500 ml bottle. Pours a dark ruby brown with a smallish foamy head. Aromas are very malty. Sour malts with some yeastiness too. Prunes too. Smoke was the first thing I got on the flavor. But it was minimal. Very roasty malty flavor. More dark fruits. A touch of spiciness on the finish and a bit of dust. Very good ratman197 (3139), Arvada, Colorado, USA Mar 8, 2006 500ml bottle poured a clear brown with a lasting amber head. Aromas of plum, bakers chocolate, and a slight hint of coffee. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of bakers chocolate, mild coffee, and some fruitiness with a smooth finish. GreatLibations (1440), Last Supper, Arizona, USA Mar 8, 2006 Pours dark brown. Nose of dark roasted coffee and wet hay. Medium sized froth/hangtime. Nice effers. Flavors of cocoa, coffee, malted leather. Finishes dry. Overall: Not my favorite Dunkle. Rune (2748), Tromsø, Norway Mar 6, 2006 500ml on tap at a friendly and cosy pub in Turku, Finland called Uusi Apteekki. Recommended by the staff. A dark lager, opaque dark brown on colour. Warming aroma. Slightly carbonated. Malty start and notes of black coffee in the finish (02.03.2006). CTwriter (34), USA Feb 27, 2006 I had this poured from the bottle with a pork with apples meal. Its sweetness mixed well with the pork, especially where it was crispy. As a palate cleanser, the snappy carbonation worked well, but it isn’t a beer I’d drink by itself. ultraspank (866), Dublin, Ohio, USA Feb 27, 2006 We took the kids to the Nine Inch Nails show in Cincy Saturday night. On the way down
we stopped at Mecklenburg Gardens. I had one of these from a bottle before dinner.
Nose of butterscotch and brown sugar. Pours a clear ruby copper. The tall creamy tan
rocky head is mostly lasting with no lace. The flavor is somewhat shallow, but is fresh and
pleasant. The floral finish has a bready caramel quality. The light to medium body is
creamy and soft. I’m not one for malty styles, but this brew worked well with my meal. I
recommend the Hungarian Goulash. Hats off to the owners of this fine establishment, we
all left very happy. xproudfoot (729), Paleolithic, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 26, 2006 Bottle. Smooth, easy drinkin goodness, sessie to the core. Earthy fruit, berry hoery dark forest flavor. Bark lager. Good.
