SSSteve (2042), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jan 14, 2006 sweet and spicy aroma of malted barley and licorice. orange ruby color. small off-white head. medium bodied. mild. sticky. sweet caramel and toffee. plum finish. SpudClampDawg (1027), Jasper, Indiana, USA Jan 8, 2006 Cranberry brown pour. Lots of fresh cherry juice in the aroma and body. The body is a bit thin, but filled with notes of chocolate, vanilla, roasted beans and more fruit. Finishes watery. Good, but I want more of everything to make this great. porterhouse (1148), Alna, Maine, USA Dec 31, 2005 (500 ml bottle) Clear medium brown, soft pillowy biscuit head. Nose of sweet maltiness, hay, brown sugar, caramel. Good lacing. Silky mouthfeel. Tastes of fine malty sweetness, some smokiness. Mildly bitter finish. Great. From the bottle
Froths up into a big tan head in the stein; the aroma is molassas and plum, with a bit of leather and yeast and humus. As the beer warms, it takes on a strong, unmistakable, and curious if not as unpleasant-as-it-might-sound scent of agar. The flavor is not as sweet as I’d expected, with smoky malt, bittersweet burnt sugar, hints of peat and corkboard. Despite adequate carbonation, the mouthfeel is a bit thin and round rather than crisp; the finish provides a bit of smoke-and-hops bitterness.
This is a reasonably good beer, but not a standout like Ayinger’s Celebrator.
beervana (781), Libertyville, Illinois, USA Dec 22, 2005 500 mL brown bottle served at Osteria del Stato restaurant, Chicago, IL. Clear dark brown ale having a long-lasting creamy off-white head with good lacing. Spicy sweet malt aroma. No discernable carbonation. Medium bodied that starts with light sweet malt, spice and caramel flavors. Finishes with light sweet malt aftertaste. No discernable bitterness. Went well with my roast chicken lunch. This is a very good drinkable malty session beer. oldrtybastrd (1801), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA Dec 11, 2005 Pours a deep dark brown. Aromas of roasted malts, smoke, and hints of fruit. Flavors of the roasted malts, some fruit, with a coffee aftertaste. SDalkoholic (1186), Chula Vista, California, USA Nov 24, 2005 Appears copper with aubunr trim. Even layer of head across the glass. Aroma is alt caramel, and malt grain. Texture is pure and refined and is easily drunk. The malt has a very light sweet taste with mre flavor siding towards caramel most of all. jbrus (4835), Delft, Netherlands Nov 20, 2005 Bottled. Chocolat malts and caramel aroma. Brown color, beige head, good lace. Light sweet, dark caramel flavor, light bitter, chocolat in the finish, light herbal, light nutty. Medium body and light dry in the finish. Like a lighter version of the Celebrator.
