OlivierMTL (712), Montréal, Quebec, Canada May 24, 2005 Couleur brune foncée allant vers le cuivrée. Poussière de grains résidant en permanence dans l’écurie, biscuits et céréales. Flaveurs de grains, caramel et toffee. Corps d’épaisseur moyenne, quelque peu vineuse et fruitée en bouche. Typiquement allemand! Brattleboro, 22 Mai 2005. tjthresh (1746), Greenfield, Indiana, USA May 22, 2005 500 ml bottle. No date, but there is a touch of oxidation. Brown and garnet with a nice tan cap on top. Strong malt nose featuring chocolate, and toffee. No hops here. Buttery chocolate with a drying at the end. Light carb is nice. Well worth the coupole of bucks fo the bottle. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA May 18, 2005 Pours deep copper with medium off-white head and big carbonation bubbles. Aroma is caramel malt, hopcit, dark fruit, hops, nuts. Tastes very caramelly, withy some figgy and nutty and toffee elements at mid palate and at the finish. The finale gets extremely caramelly, perhaps moreso than any other beer I’ve ever had. This beer is very complex and well balanced, and as with other Ayinger beers, it is exceptional in quality. Crosling (1854), Loveland, Colorado, USA May 17, 2005 Burgundy color. Light malt nose with hints of plums and berries, along with caramel. It’s quite dry as well. Palate is round and complex, smoky, and full of rich malt flavors (caramel, toffee, fruit) along with hints of vanilla. Creamy mouthfeel, yet slightly watery texture. OD40oz (600), Box Elder, South Dakota, USA May 17, 2005 Very dark amber color, almost brown. The head was a slight tan frothy, creamy one. Great taste, very smooth with an a hint of caramel in the taste. Slightly roasty nose and taste. Very good I would try this again anyday. BitchesBrew (710), Berkeley, California, USA May 11, 2005 Updated: Dec 21, 2006Rich caramel aroma. Really quite sweet in terms of initial flavors. Dense, bready malts with some chocolate and a bit of coffee and smoke towards the finish. Great stuff, one of my favorite brews from Ayinger. Bockyhorsey (2487), Mesa, Arizona, USA Apr 30, 2005 Aroma was of malts and licorice. Dark amber body with small head that settled to a thin layer on top of beer. Cherry fruit flavor that was also rich. Left fruty aftertaste on the palate which was good. Decent beer. Emil (6075), Copenhagen, Denmark Apr 29, 2005 Tap at Ayinger bräuhaus München. Dark red brown colour with a medium off-white head. Light sweet malty nutty aroma and a sweet caramel nutty taste. Medium body and a sweet light dry finish.
