Taste is the same as the nose. Bready and really malty. Some light finishing hops. Lightly sour. Rich caramel and fruity. Mouth is sweet and lightly sticky. Pretty tasty dunkel.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | May 28, 2005 Pours a clear deep orange-red with a dense and lasting head. Aromas of malt, malt and more malt. The flavor is smooth, with almost a touch of sour-fruitiness but a distracting metallic flavor in the finish. We shall see if this dissipates as I continue. Smooth and "drinkable" which sometimes means uninteresting, but here this is a well made beer that aims for a smooth, dark malt experience. I don’t notice that metallic flavor anymore- what is that? I have noticed it in beers before and I don’t like it. cansdap (17), Madisonville, Louisiana, USA
| 4.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | May 26, 2005 Where oh where have you gone, my old friend? Used to be widely available in Louisiana and Texas, but now nowhere to be seen. My favorite beer of all time. Great malt body, with just the right amount of hops. Full flavor and great head retention. Although it is heavy and sweet, I could drink this till I popped. OlivierMTL (711), Montréal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 24, 2005 Couleur brune foncée allant vers le cuivrée. Poussière de grains résidant en permanence dans l’écurie, biscuits et céréales. Flaveurs de grains, caramel et toffee. Corps d’épaisseur moyenne, quelque peu vineuse et fruitée en bouche. Typiquement allemand! Brattleboro, 22 Mai 2005. tjthresh (1765), Greenfield, Indiana, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 22, 2005 500 ml bottle. No date, but there is a touch of oxidation. Brown and garnet with a nice tan cap on top. Strong malt nose featuring chocolate, and toffee. No hops here. Buttery chocolate with a drying at the end. Light carb is nice. Well worth the coupole of bucks fo the bottle. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | May 18, 2005 Pours deep copper with medium off-white head and big carbonation bubbles. Aroma is caramel malt, hopcit, dark fruit, hops, nuts. Tastes very caramelly, withy some figgy and nutty and toffee elements at mid palate and at the finish. The finale gets extremely caramelly, perhaps moreso than any other beer I’ve ever had. This beer is very complex and well balanced, and as with other Ayinger beers, it is exceptional in quality. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 17, 2005 Burgundy color. Light malt nose with hints of plums and berries, along with caramel. It’s quite dry as well. Palate is round and complex, smoky, and full of rich malt flavors (caramel, toffee, fruit) along with hints of vanilla. Creamy mouthfeel, yet slightly watery texture. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 17, 2005 Very dark amber color, almost brown. The head was a slight tan frothy, creamy one. Great taste, very smooth with an a hint of caramel in the taste. Slightly roasty nose and taste. Very good I would try this again anyday.
