beermatrix (1497), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA Apr 25, 2005 Very clear rustic orangey-brown color with a beautiful spongey medium sized cap of densely built, organic egg shell colored froth. Settles down to a firm skim with some buttery bubbles. Lacing coats well in strings.
Aroma has a well rounded nuttyness to it backed by some fresh baked wheat bread that has a slight toasty edge. Clean and inviting with a peculiar softness to its waft that grows a bit in strength as it warms.
Taste is easy goin’ and clean with a nice softness to its overall character thats enticingly unique yet very Ayinger-like. Something about the combo of flavors and carbonation makes for a very pleasant experience bringing a nutty wheat bread grain that sits remarkably clean and well rounded. Fluffy and delicate in nature, yet just enough boldness in the flavors to raise the eyebrows more then once. Notes of dusted cocoa and smokeyish sweet malt play with touches of caramel. Bread tones dominate taste, form, and function with this one though.
Feel is wonderfully soft and bready, warm bready is more like it; great, delicately precise carbonation with a semi-light chewyness to its bready nature.
I liked everything about this beer. Its not a brute by any means in huge amounts of aroma and flavor. But whats there sets perfectly for what it is, its very natural tasting and feeling. The bread tones in all its characteristics are just right. A fantastic brew and sessionable to boot. Love those Munich malts! Mmmm...fresh breads... Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA Apr 22, 2005 Dark amber with a bug head that settled pretty quickly. Awesome aroma of Munich malts and chocolate. The syrupy body is full of rich tastes (mostly sweet). Could use some more hoppiness. SledgeJr (2957), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Apr 15, 2005 In the 0.5L bottle at the Huber Haus. Pours a very dark brown color with a vividly white foamy head. Aroma is a roasted coffee-like smell. This dunkel is medium in body for the style with a great roasted malt flavor. Has that slightly medicine-like taste of an Alt. Very good. mdi (573), Nebraska, USA Apr 13, 2005 500ml bottle. Beautiful pour...thick rocky head, frantic craze of carbonation, beauty of a wooden brown color. Smells nice & malty w/ a light mix of fruit and nuts...Malty, nutty flavor is smooth & slightly sweet...body is light, making for a very tasty session beer. I think Ayinger might be one of my favorite German breweries. frankenkitty (1900), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA Apr 12, 2005 Clear, mahogany body with a large, tan head that fades to a film but leaves a fat lace. Aroma as described by brewer: sweetly malted... with licorice, grapes and earth. Watery, indistinct malt taste to start, leading to red wine and smoke... couldn’t find the coffee, but I did get a taste of plums afterwards. Overall, rather thin and unassuming.

YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA Apr 11, 2005 This was quite good. Chestnut brown under an ample tan head. The aroma was sweet malt, chocolate, molasses, some herbs. Texture was a tad thin but otherwise medium bodied. The flavor was a pleasant sweet maltiness without being cloying. Some brown sugar, chocolate, malted milk balls. Nicely done beer that is certain to please. MrWalker (927), Stockholm, Sweden Apr 5, 2005 Bottle @ Gabriella, Viking Line ferry Helsinki-Stockholm Backlog 3 April, 2005 Served in weissbier glasses... Smells of damp autumn cellar. Well attenuated and thin body. Rather bread like with touch of burnt rubber. temporrari (327), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Apr 1, 2005 Updated: Oct 15, 2005Pours a deep amber, medium sized white head. Aroma of sweet malts, caramel, yeast. Flavor is about the same, malty with a hint of roasty chocolate in the finish. Very drinkable.
