Lou18 (1353), West Paterson, New Jersey, USA Mar 29, 2005 Poured a clear amber with lots of tiny bubbles. Rich, foamy head. Sweet aroma with a yeast/bread undertone. Flavor is malty with a roasted fruit to it, the finish is smooth. But, there is not as much going on as I anticipated. And my label was slightly different then the one pictured. oh6gdx (8795), Vasa, Finland Mar 25, 2005 Bottled. Dartk reddish brown, mediumsized white head. Bready malt aroma with hints of fruits and roast. Flavour is complex, mainly smoky wet wood, but also hints of chocolate. Finish is dryish. Not much aftertaste, but very wellbalanced. BT (85), Newtown, Connecticut, USA Mar 11, 2005 Poured cream soda (caramel-like) colored with a loose off-brown head. Sweet aroma, nothing special; tasted of sweet malts, some caramel. Palette too thin for my tastes. AleDrinker (1090), Sunnyvale, California, USA Mar 10, 2005 Pours red with tan head. Very sweet malty aroma. Flavors very interesting and complex. Took a few sips for my palate to adjust since I was just drinking ayinger ur-weisse, a very different brew. Big nutty flavor, quite dry considering the sweet aroma. Not what I was expecting. Leaves a strange aftertaste in my mouth that reminds me of blood. Not appealing. I hope they haven’t had any accidents in their brewery lately... Tried it again chilled quite cold. The bloody flaw no longer comes out. Thick smooth body. Still nothing special. Eructoblaster (1477), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Mar 6, 2005 Bottle - 500ml. Superb dark ruby body topped with a thick and lasting off-white frothy head. Lovely and complex malty aroma with brown sugar, toffee, nutty, flowery, plummy and toasty notes that reminds some barley wines. Taste is well balanced but is less complex than the aroma. Texture is very mild, and the mouthfeel ends with a fairly long hoppy finish. This is an excellent Dunkel. SwedeDog (364), Windsor, Connecticut, USA Feb 26, 2005 Bottle. Clear and red with a big head. Leaves an ok lace. Not much aroma. Mild coffee, chocolate and mustiness. Very crisp taste. Starts very fizzy, almost seltzery. Roasted malts, chocolate, a little nutty and little woody. Finishes somewhat dry and hoppy. Towards the end of the glass, it loses the maltiness and just gets fizzy. Throughout the glass, there’s overtones of something faint that I can’t quite put my finger on ... light fruit, banana, maybe. Overall, it’s pretty good. Jukkabro (2981), Tampere, Finland Feb 18, 2005 Nice dark red color, little beige head. rich malty and caramel aroma, hints of nuts come up too with mild chocolate, smooth and rich aroma indeed. Chocolate stronger in flavor with malty caramel, ends with mildly dry mouthfeel. Roasted chocolate lasts in aftertaste. Could be fuller, still nice brew. tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Feb 17, 2005 Strong plum fruitiness in the toasty and sweet malty aroma. Clear brown body is topped by a creamy cover of light tan head. Fairly sweet and toasty with notes of bread, plums, chocolate and toffee. Gentle bitterness in the somewhat dry finish. Very clean and malty. Medium body with lucious, soft, creamy, texture that slides easily across the tongue with a gentle effervescence. Excellent! Bottle (Winooski Beverage Warehouse - Nov. 2004).
