shrubber85 (2832), Wallhalben, Germany Jul 24, 2009 Bottle. Tart/dry cherry and caramel malt aroma. Medium brown color with small head. Lightly creamy chocolate-caramel malt flavor - finishes pretty dry. A tangy, attenuated dunkel - nice. rampmaster (314), Alden, New York, USA Jul 20, 2009 Presentation: It was poured from a brown 500ml bottle into a Pilsener glass.
Appearance: On top there is a thin creamy off white colored head. It fades down to just a very thin wispy covering that leaves some nice lace rings on the glass as I drink. Its body is a deep brownish amber or caramel color. It has a good transparent appearance and light amber highlights.
Smell: The aroma has a light sweet caramel or toffee malt character.
Taste/Mouth Feel: The flavor has a deep buttery sweet malt with hints of sweet candy, caramel and chocolate. Hop flavor is very mild and offers very little balance. It finishes smooth and sweet with a smooth slick texture. It has a medium body and light carbonation.
Notes: This is a very nice Dark Lager.
nick76 (2634), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 16, 2009 The aroma is sweet and chocolaty with caramel, grassy hops, grain husks, fruit, and lightly toasted malt. The appearance is dark amber with an average head. The flavor is like the aroma with a touch of cardboard. The palate is typical for the style. Overall a good but not great beer. MrRoss (614), Delta, British Columbia, Canada Jul 14, 2009 Pouring a frothy tan head of two fingers’ depth above a VERY dark yet clear amber body, a rather mild aroma of spice and some hops was detected. The taste was both malty and spiced, along with a mouthfeel that was sadly thin and watery until the last third of the glass when things became more "proper". Finish was sweet. theisti (1638), Leawood, Kansas, USA Jul 12, 2009 500 ml bottle purchased at Lukas in Overland Park, Kansas. Pour is mostly clear caramel brown, cola, with a two inch tan head that falls fairly quick. Aroma of sweet caramel toffee malt, toasty bread grain, and some apple fruit sweetness. There is also a faint roasted background, just a whisper. Taste is the toasted grain and sweet malt initially, with the apple fruit elements trailing in the finish. The roast is not present until the longish finish. Palate is medium to thin, highly carbonated. This is a smooth, drinkable beer, but just a bit too sweet for my liking. VikingMetalGod (31), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Jul 10, 2009 Bottle. Pours a very nice dark amber with a tan head. Smells roasty and a bit fruity. Tastes like it smells and looks. Nice robust chocolate/black coffee flavor with a nice malt hop balance. Very complex for a lager. Not a big fan of lagers, but this one might change my mind completely. Doesn’t finish clean like a lot of lagers. The coffee lingers on, which is nice. Thus is just a great beer. Dedollewaitor (3622), Odense, Denmark Jul 8, 2009 Tap @ Aying. Pours cloudy amber with a creamy white head and lacings. Chewy malty. A bit of bread, fruit, grain and lots of caramel. Smooth and full palate. Taste is liquorice, caramel and bread - vaguely roasted. Nice harbuck76 (127), El Cajon, California, USA Jun 27, 2009 500 ml bottle poured in dimpled mug. Pours cola like with a slight red hue with a small head that fades quick. Aroma is fruit. figs, some chocolate. Taste is about the same with some brown sugar lots of roasted malts. Finishes dry . very smooth and sweet.
