Commercial Description:
Dark chocolate in color, you can see a wonderful reflection if you hold it up to the light. It is round and soft with the warm, sweet aroma of freshly roasted malted barley. A satisfying, malty taste, with coffee-ish tones and a hint of plummy fruitiness in the finish. Complex and beautifully balanced.

Another quality product of Ayinger. Great color and pour, slight chocolate taste, with a hint of fruit.

Pours clear deep amber with a short tawny soap head. Toasted malt with a touch of chocolate aroma. Mildly pepper, some chocolate and raw sugar. Bready malts and dull grapefruit. Some cotton candy and vanilla in the clean earthy finish.

From the bottle, this poured a deep mahogany color with a short-lived fizzy white head. The aroma is of sweet malt and dried fruits. Medium bodied, this has rich, sweet malt flavors... sweet, but not cloyingly so. There are also hints of fruit and caramel. Nice dunkel.

Dunkels aren’t really my style. Ayinger knows what they are doing so I had to try this. The taste was just too sweet. It tasted like malt and fruit and was not really my thing. If you like Dunkels go for it.

Aroma is of sweet malt and raisins. The flavor is to my taste buds muddled. The hops and malt flavors complement each other too perfectly for either to be well noticed. The Dunkel style is not one of my better liked ones, I thought I was buying a dark wheat, just preoccupied. Not one for the regular rotation.

Poured reddish-brown with an off-white head that left a thin lacing on the glass. Faint spicy aroma. Tasted rather thin, with some roasted malt. A rather unpleasant soy sauce character is evident. One of the poorest selections I’ve had from Ayinger.

Fizzy and mellow. That about sums it up for me. It sizzles on the tongue, but the flavor is mellow to the point where nothing really stands out. Good enough, but for the price there are many better.
