auto (161), California, USA Aug 8, 2004 thin amber scent. light brownish red colour. taste of some sort of berry fruit. on tap in munich beastdog75 (337), Brick, New Jersey, USA Aug 4, 2004 A very smooth and quenching dunkel beer. A bit on the sweet side, has a molasses-like malt presence with some notes of tea. There is some nice roasted dryness in the finish to help lend some balance. I could polish off a few of these no problem! PorterPounder (3132), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Jul 29, 2004 Updated: Nov 18, 2008Rerate Came away a little less impressed this time around - brown bread flavor not as prevalent and the pour was pretty lifeless. Original 3.9[/] Dark brown pour with a generous, frothy, mocha colored head - thick lacing. Sweet, malty aroma of baked brown bread, wort and dates. Kind of like if they were to make an Ayinger Celebrator "Lite". Very good mouthfeel for a lager, just the right thickness. Flavor has some hints of caramel along with the dates and slight chocolate. Overall, an excellent Dunkel - probably the best I’ve had of this style. spkldhenlvr24 (446), Newburgh/Buffalo, New York, USA Jul 26, 2004 My second Dunkel. Pours a deep, nutty brown with a good size beige head. Kinda weak malty, spicy aroma. Medium bodied. Great lightly roasted, malty, crisp flavor. Good beer. canary dog (441), Rutland, Vermont, USA Jul 14, 2004 A very good dunkel. Very smooth and well-balanced between the superb malt choices and the light, yet zesty, hops. I would love to try this brew with a hearty roasted turkey dinner. Cobra (1060), In a van, down by the river, Maryland, USA Jul 8, 2004 500 ml brown European bottle. No freshness date seen, but it has a set of cryptic notches in the front label, at the bottom. Poured out a deep mahogany color, almost a dark caramel of sorts. Aromas are of coffee, toffee, slightly roasted malts, yeast, and caramel. It has a decent, but short lived tan colored head to it. It slid back to a generous lacing down the sides of my wheat beer glass. Tastes are of roasted malts, espresso notes, sweet caramel, and some English toffee. Medium mouthfeel coats the tongue well, but it’s not sweet or cloying. Some alcohol notes in the middle, leading me to believe it’s in the 6% ABV range. Dry finish to this beer, with little or no hops presence. Slightly bitter from the malts, not the hops. A really well made dunkel, in my opinion. beerinmarch (2781), Alabama, USA Jul 3, 2004 Updated: Apr 10, 2005Pours a cloudy dark brown color, slightly reddish with an ivory head. Aroma had a faint spice to it with a malty character as the focus. Taste started sweet and malty with almost a mollasses teaser near the front and ended with a strong bitterness. There was a slight fruitiness to the taste and the spice came through only faintly. wilkie (1189), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Jun 28, 2004 Bottle. I really think that this is supposed to
be an altbier. Medium off-white head. Brown,
slightly red see through color. Aroma is slightly
malty--little nutty even. Flavor is light roasty, light
in palate, crisp, and tasty. Has a decent bitter finish,
and a dry mouth feel. Better than I expected.
