bitter (1137), Henderson, Nevada, USA Apr 12, 2004 bottled: this one pours light brown with a tan head that disipated quickly, not alot of co2. nose is mostly malty, not alot up the nares. taste is sweet and light crystal malt, choc malt. one of the most sweet and light dunkels i have ever had. good, but i cant imagine drinking many of them at once. needs a little more bite for me. ontario102 (794), Boise, Idaho, USA Apr 3, 2004 I don't find much of an aroma with this brew, maybe some carmel malt; the flavor is definitely roasted carmel dominated with a light coffee and doughy goodness; nice brew. beerslayer (753), New Jersey, USA Apr 2, 2004 This is a good Dunkel. Malty, earthy, and a little smokey flavor. Finishes smooth, clean, and crisp. DerBiermeister (503), Birmingham, Alabama, USA Mar 30, 2004 The aroma is pleasant and coffeeish and slightly plummy and of roasted malt barley. The flavour is goodly but not exceedingly so, if you know what I mean. That is to say that its flavour and palate seemed to me slightly lesser than Ayinger's Brau Weisse or, more arguably, the Ur-Weisse. Still, another good brew from that old-time Bavarian favourite Ayinger. Grandpa (325), Verona, New York, USA Mar 27, 2004 Deep amberwith a tight creamy head, chocolate overtones, slightly sweet, surprisingly light jde123 (715), Washington, Washington DC, USA Mar 23, 2004 Pours nicely with a large foamy head, nice bubbles, and a little bit of lacing on the glass. Has a pleasant clean smell that neither attracts nor repels. First taste I notice a little bitterness in the back of the throat that blossoms into something else, kind of complex. Second taste has a sharper bite to it, don't like that too much. I can definately taste a coffee flavor, but something more like espresso with more of a kick to it. Not too bad. Overall, I don't think I like this beer all that much, but I haven't had much like it before! igneous1 (1374), Davenport, Iowa, USA Mar 22, 2004 color is deep brown, thin tan head. aroma is malty as hell, slightly nutty with slight alcohol. Flavor is medium-bodied, with chocolate and dark fruits, and a little leather. Hops are not apparent to my tongue. Reid (1084), Salem, Oregon, USA Mar 18, 2004 Bought in the typical Ayinger brown tapered pint bottle.
Nice enough looking dunkel poured in the glass chesnut brown with a nice large foamy white head..leaves great lacing.
Nice malty aroma.. milky , chocolaty..some hop aroma in back.
Taste is very sweet to begin with then darker ,bitterer tastes take hold..hop aftertaste..good but to "fizzy"
I did not enjoy the mouthfeel of this beer..its too carbonated.
apart from the carbonation level..this is a nice drinkable dunkel.
