skaughty (621), Marietta, Georgia, USA Mar 18, 2004 Strong, but medicinal aroma. Poured a fine medium brown with red hues. There is too much roastiness to the flavor to be appealing. This beer has all the shortcomings of a lager (thing and fizzy) and seems to overcome it by dropping a dusky chocolate malt on top. This is like a bottle of oil and vinegar to me...it just doesn't mix. Gunny (41), Dundas, Ontario, Canada Mar 17, 2004 Dark brown with an extremely firm, tightly bubbled tan head. Aromas of dark, smokey malt. Flavours of medium roast coffee and ripe tree fruit. Extremely well balanced with a pleasing, buttery mouthfeel. Ruby dark-brown color with creamy off-white head. Light roasted aroma. Typical (delicious) dunkel taste: smokey roasted malt. Finish is short but pleasant. Another excellent beer from Ayinger. (6/5/8/5/16 4.0)
Re-rated, bottled (BB 03/2005)
Chesnut brown, good creamy off-white head. Strong nose with barley, rye bread and redcurrant juice (similar to Silly Saison!). Balanced, roasted malty dunkel. (6/4/7/4/14 3.5) SpringsLicker (2041), Tennessee, USA Mar 6, 2004 This is one of my favorite Ayingers. Deep brown color with a frothy thick head. Malt that is front to back in the aroma, repeats in the flavor. Just enough sweetness, but doesn't over do it. Worth seeking out as it's a real fine Dunkel. FROTHINGSLOSH (1961), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 21, 2004 Updated: Jul 16, 2009One of my Wife’s favorite beers and one that I have enjoyed sharing with her on a number of occasions. ......Sampled from a 16.9 oz brown bottle this beer poured a rich, deep mahogany color with a huge, slowly dissipating head. Slight aroma was moderately malty and had a touch of molasses. The flavor was strong with toasted malt flavors and hints of caramel and molasses. Excellent. Steib (574), Queen Creek, Arizona, USA Feb 20, 2004 Deep red color with a puffy white head. Sweet malty, plum aroma with hints of chocolate. Sweet almost cherry flavor. Balanced very well. Medium bodied. Flavor is very refreshing, almost dangerous. A little hop bitterness in the finish. Very, very drinkable. TChrome (1298), Bedford, Texas, USA Feb 10, 2004 Beer pours attractive copper color with a big fluffy tan head that is fully retained. Aroma is dopplebockish. Malt aroma with caramel. Flavor is excellent. Flavor is sweet malt with roasted nuts and caramel. I only wish I could get this locally. This is a top notch lager. shaeffbser (70), Vail, Colorado, USA Feb 6, 2004 malty caramel aroma with some fruity undertones. Dark copper color with a off white head. I like the way this beer tastes. There is a nutty taste, caramel hints, and a malty after taste(very nice). Starts off very smooth malty palate and then yeilds a hoppy finish
