Commercial Description:
Dark chocolate in color, you can see a wonderful reflection if you hold it up to the light. It is round and soft with the warm, sweet aroma of freshly roasted malted barley. A satisfying, malty taste, with coffee-ish tones and a hint of plummy fruitiness in the finish. Complex and beautifully balanced.

Dark clear color. Roasted, bit bacon-like taste. Did remind me something of Rauchbier, but i wasn’t amazed by this Ayinger.

Nice dark red color, little beige head. rich malty and caramel aroma, hints of nuts come up too with mild chocolate, smooth and rich aroma indeed. Chocolate stronger in flavor with malty caramel, ends with mildly dry mouthfeel. Roasted chocolate lasts in aftertaste. Could be fuller, still nice brew.

Beer 69 Summer 2006 trip in Europe. Drank on 711/06 on tap @ Ayinger in the Brew pub room. Very nice smooth finishing dunkel probably one of the best Dunkels I had on the trip.

Dark brown pour. Tan head. Dark dried fruit, caramel, grains and some honey on the nose. Flavor is yeasty and malty as hell. Smooth and a touch of sweetness. Easy drinking here.

Slightly acidic but pleasant aroma. Dark reddish brown. Light caramel head. Malty, plummy and even chocolate notes. Refeshing and intriguing. Light finish.

Big tan, creamy head over beautifully dark red/purple body. Aroma of very sweet malts, with notes of syrup and hay. Nice. The taste is again very sweet and malty, but is soon dominated by a smoky hay-like flavour, which lingers and fades. Subtle, yet complex, and very interesting. An excellent lager! (0.5l bottle in glass.)

In the 0.5L bottle at the Huber Haus. Pours a very dark brown color with a vividly white foamy head. Aroma is a roasted coffee-like smell. This dunkel is medium in body for the style with a great roasted malt flavor. Has that slightly medicine-like taste of an Alt. Very good.

This was very good. Light maltly aroma that reminded me of a Vienna. Black and a small head; nothing remarkable about the appearance. Flavor was a pleasant surprise, it had bitter malt and more smoke than I have ever picked up in this style, so much so it might fairly be called a smoked beer. Looking at the score I shouldn’t have been expecting anything unpleasant, but this greatly exceeded my expectations.
