Commercial Description:
Dark chocolate in color, you can see a wonderful reflection if you hold it up to the light. It is round and soft with the warm, sweet aroma of freshly roasted malted barley. A satisfying, malty taste, with coffee-ish tones and a hint of plummy fruitiness in the finish. Complex and beautifully balanced.

Bottle. Tart/dry cherry and caramel malt aroma. Medium brown color with small head. Lightly creamy chocolate-caramel malt flavor - finishes pretty dry. A tangy, attenuated dunkel - nice.

Bottle. Dark brown beer with a big beige head. Sweet malt aroma with some earthy spiciness. Slight roastiness in flavor a sweet caramel backing and a not-quite-citrus flavor in the background. Clean and crisp. Easy to drink.

On draught at the Winking Lizard (glass special). This beer pours a pretty burgundy color with a medium thick light beige head that diminishes steadily. Spotty lacing on the glass. Roasted malt, nuts and dark chocolate aroma. Medium-bodied with flavors of roasted malt, toffee and dark fruits with touches of chocolate and hops. The finish is bready malt with a nice lingering roastiness. Overall this is an enjoyable brew, as are the other Ayinger beers I have tried.

Sugar sweet aroma, copper, with a large billowy toffee head. Roasted malt flavour, a burning bitterness, pomegranate taste as well. Bitter, acidic and warming. Good example of the style.

500ml on tap at a friendly and cosy pub in Turku, Finland called Uusi Apteekki. Recommended by the staff. A dark lager, opaque dark brown on colour. Warming aroma. Slightly carbonated. Malty start and notes of black coffee in the finish (02.03.2006).

Pours a cloudy dark brown color, slightly reddish with an ivory head. Aroma had a faint spice to it with a malty character as the focus. Taste started sweet and malty with almost a mollasses teaser near the front and ended with a strong bitterness. There was a slight fruitiness to the taste and the spice came through only faintly.

Noticeably bitter, yet lagerish. Fizzy. Dark copper-ish color. I like it.

500. Pours crystal clear very dark brown with a thick, creamy tan head that falls quickly to loose film and sedimentary rings of lace. Nice rich and restrained nose of roast grains, lightly sour, not unlike the coffee the brewer suggests. Rich and creamy but very lightly carbed body, very clean and drinkable. Big nutty, roasty, lightly coffeed mid-palate. Clean finish. Great stuff.
