| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 5, 2007 On draught at the Winking Lizard (glass special). This beer pours a pretty burgundy color with a medium thick light beige head that diminishes steadily. Spotty lacing on the glass. Roasted malt, nuts and dark chocolate aroma. Medium-bodied with flavors of roasted malt, toffee and dark fruits with touches of chocolate and hops. The finish is bready malt with a nice lingering roastiness. Overall this is an enjoyable brew, as are the other Ayinger beers I have tried. DougShoemaker (2856), Toronto, Canada

Aroma had a faint spice to it with a malty character as the focus. Taste started sweet and malty with almost a mollasses teaser near the front and ended with a strong bitterness. There was a slight fruitiness to the taste and the spice came through only faintly. austinpowers (2828), New York, New York, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Feb 4, 2008 500. Pours crystal clear very dark brown with a thick, creamy tan head that falls quickly to loose film and sedimentary rings of lace. Nice rich and restrained nose of roast grains, lightly sour, not unlike the coffee the brewer suggests. Rich and creamy but very lightly carbed body, very clean and drinkable. Big nutty, roasty, lightly coffeed mid-palate. Clean finish. Great stuff.
