Aug 4, 2007 500mL bottle. Pours a clear, cherry cola color; off-white head with decent lacing. Plenty of dried cherries and fresh malts in the aroma; syrupy and dense. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: dense dried fruits, caramel, and nougat; intense chewy maltiness that manages to (somehow) seem balanced and drinkable without any prominent show of bitterness; really tasty. Lengthy, chocolate and toasted malt finish, with the slightest show of citrus bitterness.

Jan 3, 2007 500mL bottle. Heavy aroma of smoke. Smells of smoked salmon. Very dark reddish brown. almond colored head. Flavors of chocolate and mixed berries, with smoke. I really enjoy this brewery but... This beer is perfectly balanced and has of ton of layers. ONIONS HAVE LAYERS... Not very pleasant.

Nov 17, 2002 Re-rate - had this on draft at the Winking Lizard. Dark and sweet malts abound - most surprised by the fruity overtones. Roasted caramel malty slightly nutty sweetness.

Sep 8, 2008 500 mL bottle from Wine Warehouse. Reddish brown pour with a 2-finger head. Big roasted malt aroma with some fruity notes and a slight touch of smoke. Roasted malt taste is slightly grainy with raisin notes throughout. A little thin in the end.

Jun 23, 2007 Well, the last three dunkels I’ve had are all good stuff, this at the top, probably THE top of all dunkels tasted by me. Appearance was clear coppery brown, nice two finger head, great retention, solid lacing. The aroma was bread, light earthiness, nuts, some roast. The flavor was firm and pleasing nuts, roasted malts, coffee, finishing with a touch of bready/earthy/slightly grassy dryness. Some fruity tones appear on the tongue after the dry roasted nuts and coffee leave, but not firmly so. The mouthfeel was moderate for the style. A dunkel rich in flavor, depth like a schwarz, but lighter and more drinkable as a dunkel. Nice stuff, Aying.

Jan 21, 2009 Bottle: Poured a clear dark brown/burgundy color dunkel with a nice light brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt with some caramel and light molasses is enjoyable. Taste is also a nice mix between some medium sweet malt with some nice notes of caramel malt and some very subtle molasses and a light dry roasted finish. Average body with good carbonation. Very well done but I am not sure this is a style that I really dig.
