Commercial Description:
Dark chocolate in color, you can see a wonderful reflection if you hold it up to the light. It is round and soft with the warm, sweet aroma of freshly roasted malted barley. A satisfying, malty taste, with coffee-ish tones and a hint of plummy fruitiness in the finish. Complex and beautifully balanced.

This was a great beer. Dark redish color woth a smooth creamy head. Malty sweet rich dark character. Hops are not present as to style. Medium mouthfeel clean easy drinking beer and I want another. I make this out to be the snickers of all beers. It has al the great flavors chcolate and carlmel mixed.

500ml bottle. pours clear chestnut with off white head. a nice nutty and toasted malt aroma. flavor is the same, very clean malt profile, some floral hop in the finish. flavor falls off pretty short. a well executed dunkel that you could drink a lot of. perhaps the fall would be a good session time for this.

(Bottle). Reddish brown colour, good head. Moderate aroma of oak and caramel malts. Medium body, typical dunkel, some toffee flavour but not too sweet. Must be good with food. Lightly hopped, pleasant, easy drinking. Maybe not the greatest beer in the world, but impossible to dislike, if you like beer at all (which the other ratings prove).

Bottle, sampled at Christmas during family beer tasting. Color was dark brown with a tan or beige head. Aroma of bread, sweet malt, fruit and caramel. Flavor was much of the same, with sweet tones, caramel, fruit and a hint of raisins. Overall it was a pretty enjoyable beer.

11/01/2007: Ayinger Altbairisch Dunkel has a really nice clear ruby-honey color and a thick and creamy ivory head that is long lasting and creates some good lacing on the glass. The aroma and flavor are soft and mellow, but packed full of rich caramel malts along with a bit of something darker (like chocolate) and a touch of spice. It is slightly dry in the middle and has a long, smooth finish. It is also very balanced overall and just easy to drink. The palate is smooth, almost silky. This beer is just interesting enough to hold your attention and coax you into multiple glasses of it! I enjoyed it and hope to try it out of a bottle sometime...

Draught (16 oz glass) at the Winking Lizard Tavern (Crosswoods) in Columbus, Ohio. Rating #442 for this beer...

Nice reddish colour. Very fine head. The palate is a bit sweet but it contains also a touch of bitterness. A perfect combination in this perfectly well-balanced Dunkel. This beer goes very good to cheese particularly moulded cheese. A magnificent beer by the man himself: Franz Inselkammer.

Bottle. A chestnut brown color with a light brown head. Smoked malts, wood, and an earthy aroma with a light lager palate and a tofee caramel flavor. A fine dunkel.

Cream-colored head, dissolves quickly. Malt background prominent. Toffeeish sweetness, quick, but pleasing finish.Nutty flavors, coppery, metallic, even. Very little hoppiness, clean, simple. Dark lager isn’t one of my favorite styles, but this has to be one the best.
