Aroma was that of mixed vegtables-palate was smooth with subtle spice notes. Probably the best dunkel i have ever had. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 9, 2006 500 ml bottle. Pours a dark ruby brown with a smallish foamy head. Aromas are very malty. Sour malts with some yeastiness too. Prunes too. Smoke was the first thing I got on the flavor. But it was minimal. Very roasty malty flavor. More dark fruits. A touch of spiciness on the finish and a bit of dust. Very good BillKismet (1944), Seattle, Washington, USA

Chocolate dunkel malt/barley aroma with some possible nuttiness. The flavor was chocolate with some alcohol apparent and a significant streak of caramel. A fine brew. Nose full of malts and light roasts. Flavor full of caramel malts, lightly toasted, pleasingly sweet. Good stuff. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Jan 27, 2005 Golden, reddish-brown. Lively fizz with a moderate off-white, bubbly head. Smells of rich caramel, toffee, coffee and chocolate malt. First impression is nice and light, refreshing but well rounded. Seems a little thin and it loses complexity as I work my way down my boot glass. A decent beer, but pretty unimpressive. I was hoping for a more noteworthy experience from this one.
