| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 4, 2005 pours a brownish color, with a small tan compact head, aromas of fruit, raosted malts and sweetness, the taste is dry and bitter, cofee-like, not bad, just not my thing. iowaherkeye (1872), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 8, 2006 500mL, no date. Pours a clear reddish brown with a moderate, beige head. The first aroma I picked up on was dry dog food. Not necessarily bad, it just was. Also aromas of nutss and toasty malts, light maple syrup and a little raisins. Taste is a little stronger in the dark fruit/raisin category, a small amount of bitterness noted, though it seems more from the malts rather than the hops. I can pick up on coffee if I try really hard, though I can’t tell if it’s because I have a decent palate or because in the description they throw that word in--kinda placeboish. I’m also picking up on a slight smokey flavor. At least I don’t taste dog food. Lighter bodied, moderate carbonation, light roasty lightly bitter finish. I think I’ve had only one dunkel, which was Warsteiner. This is much better. Very nice beer. Crosling (1855), Loveland, Colorado, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 17, 2005 Burgundy color. Light malt nose with hints of plums and berries, along with caramel. It’s quite dry as well. Palate is round and complex, smoky, and full of rich malt flavors (caramel, toffee, fruit) along with hints of vanilla. Creamy mouthfeel, yet slightly watery texture. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 18, 2007 Dark brown with a nice 2 finger white head. Nice carbonation. Has a lot of dark fruit and malt but the sweetness is kept in line by the bubbles. Some Sugar Daddy in the background and a little bitterness in the aftertaste. I love Ayinger beers even though I can’t pronounce most of them. Sham (1846), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 1, 2004 Brownish pour with a foamy white head. Some lacing. Roast malts, some caramel, like the description says, just a hint of plum hiding about in there. Malt stands out the most in the flavors, followed by a mellow blend of bitter hops, and a bit of the coffee-ish mentioned. The caramel is there, but not in any significant amounts. Full bodied, malty palate, finishing with a hoppy bitterness. Good dunkel. thegreenrooster (1842), St.louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 5, 2007 Pour is a dark brown with a white head. Aroma is very nice with hints of nuts and roasted malts. Flavor is excellent. Lots of dark fruits(plum and dates) with some toffee and sweet caramel. Wow a good example of this style and one that is quite affordable. SDbruboy (1832), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 3, 2003 6/25/03, draft, Munich. I had the privilege of sampling this one at the lovely little restaurant/biergarten attached to the Ayinger brewery. This arrived at the table clear and garnet-brown with a large, off-white head. The aroma was of sweet, dark roasted malts, molasses cookie and cardamom hops. Sweet malty flavor, rich and mellow. Deliscious dark beer with coffee notes and a lingering bittersweet finish. Smooth, round mouthfeel and great lacing from the top to the bottom of the glass.
