Lovely and complex malty aroma with brown sugar, toffee, nutty, flowery, plummy and toasty notes that reminds some barley wines. Taste is well balanced but is less complex than the aroma. Texture is very mild, and the mouthfeel ends with a fairly long hoppy finish. This is an excellent Dunkel. Finn (1510), Tromsø, Norway

Sweet malty flavor with fruity hints. Roasted dry bitter aftertaste. A good dunkel but a bit too sweet. shadey (1501), Rochester, New York, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Sep 12, 2004 Pour was a brown that displayed red when held to the light. The head was huge, thick, creamy and beautiful. The aroma was nutty and lightly fruity. The flavor was hazelnut, and some other stuff that I couldn’t pin down. Just outstanding beer. Dunkle is quickly becoming one of my favorite styles. MaiBockAddict (1499), Good Beer Bar Deprived, New Jersey, USA

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Apr 25, 2005 Very clear rustic orangey-brown color with a beautiful spongey medium sized cap of densely built, organic egg shell colored froth. Settles down to a firm skim with some buttery bubbles. Lacing coats well in strings.
Aroma has a well rounded nuttyness to it backed by some fresh baked wheat bread that has a slight toasty edge. Clean and inviting with a peculiar softness to its waft that grows a bit in strength as it warms.
Taste is easy goin’ and clean with a nice softness to its overall character thats enticingly unique yet very Ayinger-like. Something about the combo of flavors and carbonation makes for a very pleasant experience bringing a nutty wheat bread grain that sits remarkably clean and well rounded. Fluffy and delicate in nature, yet just enough boldness in the flavors to raise the eyebrows more then once. Notes of dusted cocoa and smokeyish sweet malt play with touches of caramel. Bread tones dominate taste, form, and function with this one though.
Feel is wonderfully soft and bready, warm bready is more like it; great, delicately precise carbonation with a semi-light chewyness to its bready nature.
I liked everything about this beer. Its not a brute by any means in huge amounts of aroma and flavor. But whats there sets perfectly for what it is, its very natural tasting and feeling. The bread tones in all its characteristics are just right. A fantastic brew and sessionable to boot. Love those Munich malts! Mmmm...fresh breads... RCL (1496), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 11, 2003 Auburn with a tan head. The nose is malty with light citrusy notes and a touch of smoke. Fruit in the nature of fresh hops at the end of the nose. The beginning is smokey sweet. The middle gets bittersweet with a good firm, but mild citrusy hop bitterness. The smoke comes through again towards the end blending nicely with the hop bitterness. Nicely balanced and tastey dunkel.
