Commercial Description:
Dark chocolate in color, you can see a wonderful reflection if you hold it up to the light. It is round and soft with the warm, sweet aroma of freshly roasted malted barley. A satisfying, malty taste, with coffee-ish tones and a hint of plummy fruitiness in the finish. Complex and beautifully balanced.

Bottled. Dark reddish brown with tiny pale head. Dark syrupy nose, hint of metal, chewy nuttiness, raisiny fruits and little cocoa. Great, smooth flavor with bold maltiness, little raisins, cocoa and enough balancing hops. Medium bodied, quenching soft palate. A really nice dunkel, too few of them around.

16.9 oz bottle from Market of Choice. Pours a medium brown with some reddish highlights, and has a moderate tan head. Aroma is yeast, caramel, molasses. Flavor is caramel and toffee malt, raisins, chocolate, molasses. Very tasty beer, have yet to not enjoy one from this classic German brewery.

Pours a brownish amber color with a brown head. Aroma is of dark fruits, caramel, roasted malts, chocolate, and some nuts. A very malty flavor with roasted malts, chocolate, and caramel. There’s some dark fruits on the finish as well. I enjoyed this brew.

Bottled. Pours a clear mahogany color with a huge ivory head. Smells like sweet wort! It makes me want to brew today. Sweet, malty flavor with some dark fruits and a bit of yeastiness. Clean and easy to drink.

Of all the beers I’ve tried from Ayinger, I liked this one the least.

Cranberry brown pour. Lots of fresh cherry juice in the aroma and body. The body is a bit thin, but filled with notes of chocolate, vanilla, roasted beans and more fruit. Finishes watery. Good, but I want more of everything to make this great.

Lightly roasty aroma with hints of nuts and a light fruitiness. Malty with some heavy toasty flavors, not quite roasted though. Light fruits and some nutty qualities. Finishes dry and earthy with a light coffee and hazlenut flavor.

500ml brown bottle. Brownish red (chestnut) pour with a big bubbly, foamy tan head. Rings of lacing stick to the glass. Malty aroma with some nut, a hint of roasted malt and mocha. Flavour has some malt depth - medium roasted malt notes, some toffee-like sweetness. End has mild roast/hop bitterness. A little nutty malt aftertaste. Soft bodied with mild carbonation. Probably the best dunkel I’ve had. I will be returning to this one often.
