Dark, slightly reddish color with thick, quickly diminishing light brown head. Light malty bitterness around middle dissipates quickly in swallow which is ringed with earthy overtones. Dunkel done right. One of my favorites. Jine (896), Nutley, New Jersey, USA

I don’t care what anyone else has said in their reviews, if you have a bottle of this, get some dry cat food and compare when you open - it’s dead on - every other review is sub-par on aroma. Still does in the glass - that sweet, dry cerealish....can’t get around that. Guess I like cat food cause this beer is awsome! A modest head arose then disapeared leaving a closer to tan than white coating. The taste is what makes this beer. Still some dry cat food hanging around (I’ve tried all my cats food before, so I guess I’m an expert) but it’s better than average dry hoppy finish, mild malts and slight sourness is what really impresses me. Beautiful reddish brown looks killer in my glass which is quickly getting more and more empty due to endless sips. Creamy dry bitter malty finish. Excellent. Remember - Dry cat food in liquid form. Don’t think about that too much or you’ll start to feel sick. illidurit (891), Santa Cruz, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 29, 2008 Poured into an Eichhof bier mug. Clear maroon color, with an off-white head that breaches the rim of the glass. No lacing, decent retention.
Spicy and doughy notes on the nose. Sweet caky malt, with an earthy quality as well.
Flavor is toasty and sweet, with a little fruitiness. Grain, toffee, and a touch of coffee.
Smooth on the palate with good carbonation. You could drink this stuff all day. troopie (890), USA

Flavour of malt and toast, no coffee notes at all. Mediciney notes among the finish with the fruit. It was OK, but there are many better dunkels around. eboats (889), Omaha, Nebraska, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 17, 2004 Amber with a foamy white head. Aroma is very malty and sweet. Tastes kind of watery with a good malt flavor. Has many flavors similar to the dopplebock, but quite toned down. It finishes with a fruity hop taste. dkoonce (888), People’s Republic of Athens, Ohio, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 27, 2006 Clear and fizzy with a thin head that almost immediately disappears. Smells rich, heavy malt and chocolate. The body is heavy and sweet with little hint of bitterness. Would be good on a cold day. P-tor44 (886), Anchorage, Alaska, USA
