| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 27, 2006 We took the kids to the Nine Inch Nails show in Cincy Saturday night. On the way down
we stopped at Mecklenburg Gardens. I had one of these from a bottle before dinner.
Nose of butterscotch and brown sugar. Pours a clear ruby copper. The tall creamy tan
rocky head is mostly lasting with no lace. The flavor is somewhat shallow, but is fresh and
pleasant. The floral finish has a bready caramel quality. The light to medium body is
creamy and soft. I’m not one for malty styles, but this brew worked well with my meal. I
recommend the Hungarian Goulash. Hats off to the owners of this fine establishment, we
all left very happy. mgermani (865), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jun 14, 2008 Pours a medium brown with a nice off-white head which dissolves quickly into a small but lasting layer of foam with some lacing. Aroma is very bready, reminds me of a good Maibock. Tastes lightly smoky, very bready, lightly toasted with some diacetyl, light nuttiness. Body is creamy but thin, carbonation average. Can’t say I really care for this one, but then I’ve always had issues with Dunkels. Willing to give anything a try, especially given that I’ve enjoyed Ayinger so far, but this one falls flat for me. Tastes of caramel, biscuit, and apple. Has a tinny finish. Whole experience reminds me caramel popcorn. drpimento (851), La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA

Color is a deep, lovely, amber brown with highlights of brass. Milld chocolate malt roasty aroma. Flavor is very smooth with a hint of fruit, nice supple body. Very supple. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 14, 2003 Yeah...like i have anything else better to do at 4 in the morning than drink beer??? This was another winner from Ayinger..coming to be a name to trust. The aroma begins with hints of malt, a whopping cherry-like sweetness, and a nice whiff of doughiness. It pours a fiery red color, fairly clear at that, with a nice row of carbonation, a moderately thick beige to tan colored head, and left a nice defree of lacing on the glass. The taste definitely attacks the back and sides of the tongue. The roasted malts linger and give way to a cranberry aftertaste, mildly acidic, and that eventually leads into a malt/fruit/plum mix in the final aftertaste. The aroma does grow in intensity now and then as i progress through this wonder...something grapevine-like, but pleasantly refreshing after a hard nights work. Good use of the little bubbles, and not overboard with the roasty afternotes (which FINALLY just started to kick in)..i’m really digging that fruit ending which gets stronger by the minute..a nice building surprise..definitely a winner. krisbierjaeger (844), dolores, Colorado, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 16, 2002 not the best choice to consume after a couple winter ales, i’m about malted out. this one has some additional depth tho, and perfumy richness to it. a chestnut amber presentation rather than the tootsie-roll brown typical of many dunkels. a lax head still sheets and undulates in pretty riverine wisps and oxbows. decent nose has well-worn leathery, earthy scotch peat and coffee tones. to visualize the fragrance in my mind, i pictured an ancient pillar of rotting pine trunk in a forest glade: sappy, lightning struck and bejeweled with mosses and flowers. then i pictured our office secretary naked, which really has nothing to do with any beer. like her, tho, this beer has a silky smooth body and light sweetness. and strangely i feel myself wanting more. afireinside96 (839), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA

Smells of brown sugar, oatmeal, and burnt caramel. It has a smooth roasted flavor with some sweet caramel and noble hops taking a backseat. Finishes a bit on the sweet side with some lingering roastedness. A very good dunkel.
