| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 5, 2005 500mL bottle. Label is slightly different than that in the picture. A clear ruby pour with a smallish, bubbly tan head. Aroma of dark malts, chocolate, grapes and soy sauce. Medium body. Lots of malts in the taste. Hints of chocolate and coffee. A little bit of grapes and nuts too. A dry, coffee-esque bitter finish. wnhay (722), Princeton, New Jersey, USA

Ayinger knows what they are doing so I had to try this. The taste was just too sweet. It tasted like malt and fruit and was not really my thing. If you like Dunkels go for it. jde123 (715), Washington, Washington DC, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Mar 23, 2004 Pours nicely with a large foamy head, nice bubbles, and a little bit of lacing on the glass. Has a pleasant clean smell that neither attracts nor repels. First taste I notice a little bitterness in the back of the throat that blossoms into something else, kind of complex. Second taste has a sharper bite to it, don't like that too much. I can definately taste a coffee flavor, but something more like espresso with more of a kick to it. Not too bad. Overall, I don't think I like this beer all that much, but I haven't had much like it before!

Typiquement allemand! Brattleboro, 22 Mai 2005. Maverick34 (711), New York, USA

Dense, bready malts with some chocolate and a bit of coffee and smoke towards the finish. Great stuff, one of my favorite brews from Ayinger. arrogantb (707), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 4, 2009 Not quite as dark as other dunkels, severe brown-red but still a good looking beer. Smells like an average bowl of cereal. More than decent malty taste, exceeds the smell. Pretty easy to drink but I wish I knew how fresh this was because I am suspicious....
