Served cold in a quasi-wheat beer glass. Pours dark brown with a creamy light brown head. Medium lacing. Light aroma of dark malts—caramel, chocolate, and coffee. Flavor matches the aroma, but with added dark fruits. Very subtle. Not a beer that blows you away, but one that is clearly well-made and true to its style. Went well with wiener schnitzel and cabbage. I found the carbonation to be excessive.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 22, 2003 Clear amber-brown ale with thick head that settles down quickly. Aroma is sweet malt with hints of plums, raisins and coffee. Smooth and medium bodied and slightly crisp. Flavor is highly malty and slightly sweet, fruity and nutty. I'm not a big fan of this style but this is really well done and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Jblauvs (641), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 2, 2009 Bottle thanks to Scrizzz into pint glass. Pours a dark but clear brown with some redish hue to it. Big seafoamy white head that fades pretty quickly leaving no lace. Nice aroma that reminds me of fall: nuts, earthyness, wood, some vanilla, roasted malt. Flavor is the same with a bit more roastiness (almost bitterness) upfront. A bit of a plumb frutiness in there too. Medium to light bodied with medium carbonation. Overall: a nice example of a nice style. talon1117 (631), Bellvue, Colorado, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 3, 2006 Pour is clear and amber-brown in color; head is off-white, mostly full, and fizzy, yet still creamy and somewhat lasting with some random lace. Nose is nutty chocolate with some plum and maybe some toasted bread. Flavor is toasty and nutty with some chocolate and bread and an apple character, with some coffee somewhere in the flavor. Noble hop noted faintly with a bitterness to balance. Palate is medium to light, moderate carbonation, and a mouthfeel that is somewhere between creamy and dry. Finishes quickly and mostly dry with chocolate bready notes and some faint noble hops. Not as dry and with more fruitiness than other dunkels, but overall, a nice offering. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 17, 2009 From the 500 ml bottle with no noticeable expiration date or lot code. The pour is a bubbly but attractive amber-brown and a small beige head, The aroma is of barley malts and caramel or molasses. The mouthfeel is of medium to heavy texture. The taste is mainly sweet with malts, coffee, and fresh hops in the background. This too me is how a Bavarian dark beer should be.
