Commercial Description:
Dark chocolate in color, you can see a wonderful reflection if you hold it up to the light. It is round and soft with the warm, sweet aroma of freshly roasted malted barley. A satisfying, malty taste, with coffee-ish tones and a hint of plummy fruitiness in the finish. Complex and beautifully balanced.

500ml bottle poured a clear brown with a lasting amber head. Aromas of plum, bakers chocolate, and a slight hint of coffee. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of bakers chocolate, mild coffee, and some fruitiness with a smooth finish.

Bottle. Pours a very deep clear ruby-brown with a large mostly-lasting off-white head. Aroma of caramel malt, slightly roasty, and dark fruit. Delicious flavour of toasty caramel malt, dark fruit, and a lightly bitter, dry chocolaty finish. Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel. A very nice version of the style and one of the better ones I’ve tried, I really enjoyed it.

500 mL bottle. Pours mahagony with a medium tan frothy head that lasts a while. Aroma is yeast (barn, earth) and caramel malt (grain, meal) and maple. Malty, yeasty flavor, low sweetness , no bitterness, acidity. Medium bodied and smooth, light fizzy palate.

Dark amber with a bug head that settled pretty quickly. Awesome aroma of Munich malts and chocolate. The syrupy body is full of rich tastes (mostly sweet). Could use some more hoppiness.

This Dunkel had a large tan head with fine-small bubbles. The body is reddish-brown and it has a caramel aroma to it. The lacing was fair on the sides of my glass. It had a hint of coffee in the taste. This was a decent Dunkel, but I have had better.

Nice translucent copper body with a luscious, two-inch, fluffy tan head. Nose has malt and some hop character. Nice malty body. Definite sweetness with more hop on the tongue. Like a bock mixed with a European lager. A little more bitterness than I cared for but this was still good and Ayinger is still one of my favorite breweries. Worth trying!

Rerate Came away a little less impressed this time around - brown bread flavor not as prevalent and the pour was pretty lifeless. Original 3.9[/] Dark brown pour with a generous, frothy, mocha colored head - thick lacing. Sweet, malty aroma of baked brown bread, wort and dates. Kind of like if they were to make an Ayinger Celebrator "Lite". Very good mouthfeel for a lager, just the right thickness. Flavor has some hints of caramel along with the dates and slight chocolate. Overall, an excellent Dunkel - probably the best I’ve had of this style.

On tap at Ayingers Speis und Trank in Munich.
Dark reddish/brown coloured, medium sized pale beige head. Malty, chocolate and mild spicy aroma with notes of toffee and smoke. Pleasant sweet dryish finis. Another very tasty beer from Ayinger.
