Aroma of very sweet malts, with notes of syrup and hay. Nice. The taste is again very sweet and malty, but is soon dominated by a smoky hay-like flavour, which lingers and fades. Subtle, yet complex, and very
interesting. An excellent lager!

Dense, bready malts with some chocolate and a bit of coffee and smoke towards the finish. Great stuff, one of my favorite brews from Ayinger. skibumphishead (180), USA

Pour is dark red with a small off white head that lightly clings to the glass. The flavor is all molasses and coffee. The carbonation and alcohol make the mouthfeel crisp, and the finish is all sweet malt. I loved this one. It is different than other dunkels that I have had. I will purchase this tasty beer again. rebelbrewer (125), Lithonia, Georgia, USA

The head was slow to diminish so I drank it. Nice lacing was left on the glass. The aroma was of sweet malt and a hint of spice. The taste is lightly sweet and finishes with a tang that may come from the carbonation. Very clean aftertaste. Nice brew. JoeinUccle (911), Brussels, Belgium

Pours a dark reddish-brown with a decent head. Malty nose offers sweet creamy coffee, toffee, caramel, and fruity note like red currant. Mild residual sweetness in flavor with mild bitterness for good balance, plus a refreshing touch of bready sourness. Light- to medium-bodied and thirst-quenching yet shows great character. cking (1041), North Canton, Ohio, USA

Aroma has a warming buttery, smokey, milk chocolate thing going on with a good bread quality. Dark brown pour with a thick creamy lasting head, and good lacing. Filling and silky to the palate, this drinks with great ease. Very tasty with numerous layers of flavor. Fresh buttered bread and burnt molasses, chocolate malt, red grapes and over ripened bananas. Top notch lager. shalloWMeans (160), Independence, Kentucky, USA

From the minute I poured it, with its nice amber, mahogany color and beautiful reflection, to the nice full creamy head, I simply knew I’d like it. The aroma was very malty, caramelly, and bread-like. The taste was very complex with similar malt, toffee and flavors remniscent of bread-pudding. And of course the palate was nice, smooth, and creamy like all good dunkels. Great beer, definitely my favortie dunkel thus far. BrotherGrendel (611), San Diego, California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 9, 2009 A- Pours a dark red/husky brown hue, head is a few fingers’ of white creamy foam with good retention, moderate lacing
S- Nose is of moderately sweet caramel malts, a touch of coffee, chocolate, brown sugar, and roastiness
T- Initial taste is of roasted malts dominated by caramel and chocolate flavors, progresses to slight hop bitter/dryness and grains, finish is brief, overall very well-balanced
M- Light/medium-bodied beer, watery texture, carbonation is a bit amped up and biting, little residual on the palate
D- 5%abv means this is one smooth-drinking session beer, I really like the taste profile and aromas from this Dunkel style
