Aroma has a really nice, nutty-toffee malt character, dark frutis in the background. Flavor is mellowed toffee and dark fruit, toasted cereal like character through the middle and finish. Mouthfeel is creamy smooth. Decent overall. footy (334), scottsdale, Arizona, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Jun 12, 2006 Malty and nutty, with the flavor of toasted grains... a very drinkable beer. Light carbonation, decent head which fades quickly, but leaves behind a bit of lacing. It’s really good, but not necessarily the "ultimate" dunkel. Very good though, I’d drink this again and again. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 9, 2006 500 ml bottle. Pours a dark ruby brown with a smallish foamy head. Aromas are very malty. Sour malts with some yeastiness too. Prunes too. Smoke was the first thing I got on the flavor. But it was minimal. Very roasty malty flavor. More dark fruits. A touch of spiciness on the finish and a bit of dust. Very good cvillebeer (134), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | May 28, 2005 Pours a clear deep orange-red with a dense and lasting head. Aromas of malt, malt and more malt. The flavor is smooth, with almost a touch of sour-fruitiness but a distracting metallic flavor in the finish. We shall see if this dissipates as I continue. Smooth and "drinkable" which sometimes means uninteresting, but here this is a well made beer that aims for a smooth, dark malt experience. I don’t notice that metallic flavor anymore- what is that? I have noticed it in beers before and I don’t like it. porterhouse (1164), Alna, Maine, USA

Nose of sweet maltiness, hay, brown sugar, caramel. Good lacing. Silky mouthfeel. Tastes of fine malty sweetness, some smokiness. Mildly bitter finish. Great. RCL (1496), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 19, 2006 500ml bottle - Pours dark brown with a big, fluffy head that leaves nice lacing. I smelled malts, yeast, and dark fruit. For some reason the aroma and flavor both reminded me of Belgian strong ales though of course with less alcohol punch. It’s a smooth beer with light carbonation and a malt and dark fruit flavor profile. The palate loses something because I found it too watery. The finish is good though and overall this is an excellent beer.
