Commercial Description:
Dark chocolate in color, you can see a wonderful reflection if you hold it up to the light. It is round and soft with the warm, sweet aroma of freshly roasted malted barley. A satisfying, malty taste, with coffee-ish tones and a hint of plummy fruitiness in the finish. Complex and beautifully balanced.

What a very good beer! Looks great, with a deep reddish brown colour and a nice lasting head. Aroma is nice and roasty, but with some vanlla-y tones to set it off. Flavour is great and the feel of the not-too-bitter, yet still dry, beer makes it a welcome change to the boring beers at my local liquor store. Very impressed.

You want malt? Bam! Buttery, caramelly, toffeeish maltiness abounds in this brew with light undercurrents of coffee. Aromas are of buttery toffee and roasted malt. I did not find this watery as others have suggested, although it isn’t exactly heavy either. Not cloying in the least. A nice, light bitterness presents itself in the finish. Deep mahogony in color with a medium tan head that lasts. A pleasant brew.

Clear dark appearance. Dark roasty flavor. Good dunkel.

A good dark beer but not all that I expected from the Ayinger name. A very pronounced aroma. I assume it is the hops, I am still kind of new at this. A clean sweetness to it that leaves a nice hoppiness behind on the tongue. I may have to re-rate this later.

This has to be the most consistantly good German brewery I have come across. This poured very dark clear amber with a nice dense egg shelled colored head. The aroma has rich bready toffee and creamy malt. Medium / light body with some soft carbonation. Starts with a bit of astringency and roasted malt that is very smooth and velvety. There is also a good amount of dry toffee. The finish has some spice added in with the rest. A very enjoyable dunkel.

Very malty. A good dark lager but just a little weak and watery on the finish, which keeps it from being top of the line. Smells great!

Re-rate - had this on draft at the Winking Lizard. Dark and sweet malts abound - most surprised by the fruity overtones. Roasted caramel malty slightly nutty sweetness.

Nice dark reddish brown color, good head. Chocolate in the aroma and flavor, very malty, could use more hops and/or carbonation to offset the almost, but not quite, excess sweetness.
