Had a dark, albeit see-through brownish-ruby red color. This smelled like a bavarian lager all the way, and the flavor was exceptional while at the same time consistent with other examples of the style I’ve tried. However, the flavor was definitely more pronounced. Aftertaste was not overpowering, and lent more to the malts. Delbomber (387), Philadelphia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 20, 2001 Dark red-brown with a nice head and yeasty, slightly hoppy aroma. Double-bock character with grape, prune, and brown sugar flavors. Sweet, smooth, and medium bodied with a nutty yeastiness to the finish. Yeast became more prominent as it warmed. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 6, 2004 Aroma is of sweet lager. Great dark red color. Head is perfect, not too rocky, but resilient non the less. Very smooth to drink. Full to medium mouthfeel. Big malty taste, hops are subdued and are more bitter toward a fizzy finish. Not a bad beer. Sigmund (2286), Hafrsfjord, Norway
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 27, 2003 (Bottle). Reddish brown colour, good head. Moderate aroma of oak and caramel malts. Medium body, typical dunkel, some toffee flavour but not too sweet. Must be good with food. Lightly hopped, pleasant, easy drinking. Maybe not the greatest beer in the world, but impossible to dislike, if you like beer at all (which the other ratings prove). goldtwins (4080), Nesconset, New York, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 21, 2003 the aroma is dominated by the smells of rich malt. there is a mix of vienna or munich type malts and then lots of weet toffee like aroma reminiscent of english ales. there are no hops in the nose at all. brilliant clarity and a tan head that lasts and lasts make this ruby liquid a delight to look at. if you like rich malt flavors this is the beer for you. there is a hint of toastiness in the malt and then a slight amount of bittering hops that keep the malt from getting too sweet. very well balanced. clean finish with a touch of roastiness nipping away at the end of the taste. the medium-full body with medium-light carbonation makes this a beer that is not heavy at all even though it is so malty rich. very smooth beer and very well balanced.
