| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 16, 2006 Poured from a bottle into a lager glass, this gem developed a lasting, creamy, tan head. Close examination of the body revealed a gorgeous deep chestnut hue that was clear and bubbly. Initially the aroma had a short burst of hops, but the specifics escaped me before the aroma morphed into a rich caramel-like maltiness. Shortly thereafter I also smelled a tiny bit of fruit. Much to my surprise, this had one of the most dynamic aromas I’ve experienced in a beer. The taste was crisp and a little spicy with some smoother, sweeter malts for balance. I could be going crazy, but I also thought I noticed the slightest bit of smoked malts in the finish. The beer was medium- bodied and very refreshing. I’ll have this one again for sure! moseefus (58), Omaha, Nebraska, USA

Tasted of molasses and as the description said, plums. The beer was highly enjoyable, and finished without a bitter finish. islay (478), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA

Bright, sparkling, gold-tinged brown color. Moderate amount of fluffy beige head. Surprisingly tart, hoppy flavor for a malt-oriented brew, and that’s great for a hops lover like me. Very interesting, unique malt flavor that I can’t put my finger on but that I really enjoy. Excellent flavors could stand to be a little stronger. Very crisp, fizzy, and satisfying to the palate and very drinkable. I am pleasantly surprised at just how tasty this beer is, given that malty German brown lagers aren’t my favorite style. This is probably the best dunkel that I have ever had. Jmichael (633), Asheville, North Carolina, USA
