Archibaldo de la Cruz (394), Finland Sep 9, 2008 Bottle. Dark brown colour with a tan head. Aroma is sweet and malty. Sweet roasted malt flavour with hints of alcohol and fruits. Some bitterness in the finish. Medium to full-bodied and well-balanced brew. Very tasty Doppelbock. gameface23 (131), Haverhill, Massachusetts, USA Sep 8, 2008 Pours a dark brown with a great looking tan head. Smells of malt and raisins and maybe some very faint smokiness. Taste hides the alcohol well, with notes of malt. swillguzzler99 (19), Glendale, Arizona, USA Sep 7, 2008 Pours an opaque brown with slight toffee colored head. Smells of spices and maybe raisins. Good mouth feel. Tastes of raisins. It wants to taste sweet, but the malt and hops counteract that very quickly. This is a good beer, but it seems to be filling. I don’t think I could drink more than two bottles in one sitting. More refined than Optimator. ckau (26), north east, Maryland, USA Sep 6, 2008 Great all around beer. smooth smoky aroma that maintains throughout the bottle. Thick tan head holds well for a little while. Malty, melanoidin flavor that would go great with something salty. Alcohol heat not present, a little warming in the stomache. Fun beer to drink... NextBestThing (22), Westtown, New York, USA Sep 6, 2008 Updated: Sep 22, 2008Awesome double bock. Reddish undertone in a dark, dark, almost black beer. Disguises the alcohol expertly. Delicious medium body with discernibly roasted notes. Perfect for the style, nothing remotely offensive about this outstanding doppel. Excellent nose, excellent mouthfeel, excellent drinkability, excellent everything. Long live the King of doppelbocks. mca47 (1), Scottsdale, Arizona, USA does not count Sep 5, 2008 Nice dark brown pour with a head that develops. Yeast(y) and sweet aroma. Very smooth palate and nice malty flavor. Aftertaste holds on the roasted malt and leaves slightly bitter.
Great beer! SmaugAle (2), , California, USA does not count Sep 5, 2008 Ayinger Celebrator Doppelbock 6.7% ABV
1st nose, it is hoppy, with 1 inch head.
1st taste was light and a bit fizzy.
Dry, soft, chocolaty finish.
End was kinda thickish.
Very good, and acceptable with steak, ribs, sausage.
Bought cold, let stand on table for a bit. Berserkir (38), New York, USA Sep 5, 2008 Poured dark stout black with a fleeting brown head. Very rich malt aroma. Flavor is dark malts with a light bitter aftertaste followed by nutty mocha.
