v64 (74), Austin, Texas, USA Jul 4, 2008 Pours very dark reddish-brown, strong burnt aroma, almost like Guinness. Slight bit of hops in the taste, mostly roasted flavors, like coffee and chocolate. Absolutely delicious beer, highly recommended. cellar (483), Dublin, Ireland Jul 1, 2008 Pours almost black, short lasting head, major notes of moked roasted caramalt and liquorice, minor notes of coffee, dark chokolate, overripe fruit. very sweet, sweet aftertaste, little bitter. I really enjoyed this :-) markwise (1132), 15 Minutes from Kuhnhenn in, Florida, USA Jun 30, 2008 This beer is a phenomenon. I don’t think you can talk about food and beer pairing without mentioning this beer. It tastes different every time I drink, depending on what I have eaten. The longer it ages the more chocolate character it takes on. The aroma is chocolate caramel and the character in the body is oily with notes of smoke and a bitter finish. I agre with Ethereal, though: you should just try it for yourself. Ethereal (1500), London, Greater London, England Jun 28, 2008 330ml bottle at home, in celebration of retaining my job! Pours a dark, oily brown with little head. Nice malt and rye aromas on the nose and a great combination of malt flavours in the mouth. Hard to describe - you should just try it for yourself! Nice smoky dryness on the finish and it doesn’t feel too heavy given the strength. A very good doppelbock indeed. spagyetti (68), Puyallup, Washington, USA Jun 27, 2008 Bottle and tap. A classic, not to be missed! When spring rolls around it’s time for a celebration. Or a Celebrator! Don’t be fouled, This Wild and Complex brew will have the cop’s reading you the riot act if not handled with care. One hell of a Doppel! Cheers! WickerBrew (312), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 26, 2008 This is as good as it gets for a beer that is as drinkable as this. Usually stuff this good must be savored, but this goes down easy. Very carmelly, both in smell and taste. Not much hops, they are mostly hidden under a malty mountain. Perfect for absolutly any situation from tailgates to desserts. sleestak (180), Williamston, Michigan, USA Jun 25, 2008 Pours deep ruby red with a foamy, quickly dissipating head. (To be fair, I was using the wrong glassware.) The aroma is an amazing blend of burnt sugar, roasted malt, tobacco, and figs. Flavor was dominated by sweet maltiness with a surprising hop finish. Unbelievably rich beer worthy of the accolades, but definitely not my idea of an everyday brew. kiefdog (1567), Tampa, Florida, USA Jun 25, 2008 33cl bottle from Total Wine (Tampa). Rated on 3/24/08. Pours very dark brown to almost black in color, with one finger tan head. Good head retention. Smell: rich malt aroma, strong sweetness, lots of wheat, straw and barley notes. Maybe some ripe fruit as well. Taste is a velvety chocolate with strong malt notes and a slightly bitter, lingering coffee finish.
