det2nj (31), Newark, New Jersey, USA Jun 13, 2008 Very deep brown, almost opaque, with decent sized tan head. Amazing aroma of malted fruit and spice. Taste is dominated by malts and bitter spice, tingle remains through the aftertaste. A great experience, but not the ideal taste for me. Boesky (39), Galesburg, Illinois, USA Jun 12, 2008 12oz. bottle. Wow..this is one seriously nice beer.
Pours an almost black ruby red, with a lively but quickly dissapating head. The nose is sweet and yeasty, with hints of fruit and caramel. The dark malts hit the tongue first, giving way to a wonderfully balanced and complex mix of flavors, swirling all around your taste buds.. Finishes clean and dry, with the roasted malt lingering on. One of the great beers of the world. tgncc (796), Bellmore, New York, USA Jun 11, 2008 Nice aroma of caramel malts, and some dark fruit. Attractive appearance of dark brown/red, persistent tan head. The flavor is malty/sweet, with some slight hoppiness, and carbonation very noticeable. The flavor wasn’t as remarkable as I had expected. Some malty sweetness lingers on the palate, as do some hops. Excellent beer overall. daknole (2805), Plantation, Florida, USA Jun 11, 2008 How could you not love this malty wonder of a beer? i mean seriously. Malt cubed. I have had this numerous times and it is always amazing. Haslinger (640), Syracuse, New York, USA Jun 9, 2008 Bottle, the aroma is of incredible caramel with a bit of malt scent. The taste is malt, malt and more malt and it is absolutely delicious. Amazing terrific beer, would buy again immediately thebeertourist (2751), Oslo, Norway Jun 8, 2008 Bottle at Le Sous-Bock, Paris. Very dark brown with a healthy tan head. Molasses, nuts and dried fruits aroma. Flavours blend chocolate and nuts together with roasted malts. Rich and heavy. Well-balanced. Full-bodied, quite soft. Worth a celebration. carruthm (1112), Seattle, Washington, USA Jun 8, 2008 Updated: Jan 7, 2009One of the finest Ayingers and that’s saying something since Ayinger makes some of the best German beers. Deliciously malty with a superb balance. One of the few beers I could drink over and over again without wanting to change things up. drpimento (785), La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA Jun 8, 2008 In the court of the prince of beers... Man, this is a bulwark of dopplebocks. One of the very best. This one is an interpretation that is earthier and a bit more scrappy. Perhaps even a little more drinkable than the original dopplebock. Poured wth a nice tan head, fine and a bit creamy. Dark almost opaque brown. A little crisper in the mouth with excellent carbonation. A nice smokey character. Just enough bittersweetness to make you want to have another swallow. Beer at its best! Having a draft of this at Bodega Brew Pub downtown La Crosse, WI USA.
