tunneler (112), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Sep 6, 2009 Raisin caramel notes smoothed out over and into the darker flavors. Sweet but not cloyingly so. The elevated alcohol is invisible OD40oz (600), Box Elder, South Dakota, USA Sep 3, 2009 I wasn’t expecting much when I saw this one at the store. $2.15 per bottle didn’t raise my expectations any either. I thought the little ornament on the bottle was pretty sweet and If I were dirt poor I would probably hang it on my christmas tree. You know that feeling you get when you put on an old jacket and find a $20 bill in the pocket? Thats how I felt when I drank this. Pours a nice brown with a quickly diminishing tan head. Caramel with slight coffee in the aroma. Great caramel bock taste with a nice warm finish. Top freaking shelf!!! MrGGen (221), Italy Sep 3, 2009 Colore marrone, gran schiuma cremosa, tipo stout.Aroma di malto tostato, caramello.in bocca è piena, buon corpo, sapore di malto, molto ben equilibrata, caramello, nel finale un accenno di liquirizia. Lungo il finale e ben bilanciato. sirpsycho (342), Murrysville, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 30, 2009 Bottle at the Headkeeper. Pours a reddish-black, tan head that sticks around for awhile. Aroma is a mix of coffee, bakers chocolate, malt and some vague ripe fruit notes. Flavor is an impressive blend of malt, ripe fruit, caramel and very light smoke notes. Finish is slightly dry. drowland (1360), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Aug 22, 2009 One of the definitive doppelbocks out there - absolutely delicious and perfectly balanced. bobman006 (38), New Jersey, USA Aug 18, 2009 Bottle. Pours a dark brown with retentive tan head. Aromas of molasses, grass and earthiness. Flavors of caramel, molasses, cereal grain, and a fruity note, perhaps raisin. Nice mouthfeel. This beer is all about the balance. Very drinkable. rlaw (42), USA Aug 14, 2009 Bottle. Pours a beautiful dark brown with a nice thick beige head. Aroma is of lots of sweet malt, fruit (raisins?), some smoke. Flavor is that and more, balanced with just enough hoppiness. The flavor reminds me somewhat of a smoky scotch. Really subtle, well incorporated flavors. Feels creamy, maybe a bit oily on the tongue. This is a damn fine Doppelbock, best I’ve ever had. It has the sweetness and alcohol you’d expect in a Doppelbock, but it’s so nicely balanced that I could drink this all night -- probably couldn’t walk then! Love the goat hanging around the bottle neck. ljay6880 (132), , Pennsylvania, USA Aug 14, 2009 12 oz bottle served in a clear pint glass. Pour was a deep, cola like brown with about three fingers of thick tan head. Nose is malt, caramel, barley, cellar, bread, and earth. Taste is exactly the same, with perhaps some light chocolate notes. This is a very tasty brew. Everything about it is delicious, and is quite sessionable.
