Elfastball7 (5), New Jersey, USA does not count Mar 28, 2008 Updated: Jul 3, 2008One of the best beers I have ever had!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tastes of roasted coffee and burt molasses with sweet malt and a balanced dryness toward the end. The alcohol content is well hidden. Smells of roasted coffee, burt molasses, and sweet maltiness. More balanced and better flavor than the Paulaner Salvator.
I would love to drink more of these
TheDutchman (18), Louisiana, USA Mar 27, 2008 Poured black but was crisp and clear when held up to the light. It has a minimal head, with a tan foam but it lasted throughout the drink. The aroma was very nice with a strong smell of chocolate, and burnt sugar with a hint of alcohol. The intial taste had a medium bitterness, and a soft carbonation that was pleasant to drink. It had a slight bitterness on the finish with a hint of the alcohol. The only negative was that it left a lingering dry taste on my mouth for a few minutes after. I’m not a big fan of the Doppelbock (THe reason why more overall rating was lower) but I can appreciate this beer for what it is. It was a good beer and if you are a Doppelbock fan a must have. Me personally though I don’t think I’d drink one again. ogivlado (3036), Zagreb, Croatia Mar 27, 2008 On tap at Ayingers Speis und Trank in Munich.
Reddish/brown coloured, medium sized beige head, slight alcoholic and burnt sugar nose. Sweet malty, slight roasted coffee and chocolate aroma with notes of dried fruits. Mild spicy and alcohol notes in the finish. Served a little bit too hot but undoubtedly great brew. Tenderstone (25), Renton, Washington, USA Mar 27, 2008 Pours a near black with a short tan head that dissipates quickly. Aroma of molasses brown sugar and toffee. Flavor includes coffee, chocolate and a hint of prune, with a very welcome sweetness from the malts. With a medium heavy palate, you might only drink a second one on a cold day. For those that like it a little on the sweet side, this is a wonderful beer. unclemike (834), Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA Mar 26, 2008 Pours a cola colored brown with a thick foamy head which goes away quickly. Not much carbonation visible, or maybe it’s just hidden in the darkness. Nice, sweet, rich malty aroma, not much going on in the hops department (sorry hopheads). Taste is initial sweet maltiness, with a little dark fruit in the background. The finish is dry, spicy, and a little bit smoky. Overall, a smooth, complex & very tasty brew that lives up to all it’s accolades!
HughConway (364), Alabama, USA Mar 25, 2008 Bottle. Pours black with slight head that dissipates to random laces. Roast chocolatey aroma, nice coffee flavours. A fine beer. grandridge (222), Port Clinton, Ohio, USA Mar 25, 2008 Updated: Jul 14, 2009Pours almost black with some red when held up to the light. Aroma: Alcohol, Coffee, Chocolate. Mouthfeel is excellent, rich and frothy. Goes down so nice and smooth. I’m getting a lot of coffee and an alcohol flavor that isn’t that strong and what I would expect from a doppelbock. What a good balance of flavors. I’m glad I was "forced" to buy four of these. darkseduction (198), Zweibrücken, Germany Mar 25, 2008 Bottle 33cl. Nice dark-brown, mahagony colour. Overwhelming impression of toffee, coffee, dark chocolate, roasted grains. Plays in the same league with Andechser Doppelbock. Perhaps a little bit better. A must-have for every Doppelbock-maniac!
