RomanW70 (297), Providence, Rhode Island, USA Feb 10, 2008 Updated: May 31, 2008Pours dark caramel brown. Light head that dissipates quickly. Aroma of caramel, chocolate, and toffee. Very rich mouth feel. This is almost a meal. Slightly smoky taste. Med/low carbonation. Nice better finish. Well-balanced. The standard for dopplebocks. afireinside96 (807), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 9, 2008 bottle. pours a dark brown with one finger of tan head. smells sweet and nutty. rich malt presence in the flavor with some raisins, caramel, and smoke in there too. finish is smoky and dry. highibus (421), Mill Creek, Washington, USA Feb 8, 2008 Pours a deep mahogany, with a small tan head. Aroma of sweet bread. Flavor is very balanced. Great malty backbone with just enough hops. Almost a green apple flavor on top of the same bread that was in the aroma. Very nice, well put together beer. moseslikesbeer (183), conestoga, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 6, 2008 bottle. aroma...malts and hops all over the sinus. smells like nutts and also like sour fruit. great dark brown color with little to no head. great lacing. the taste of this beer may be too complex for me too try to rate but here goes, very malty with a hint of hops. kind of caramel and nuts mixed with yeast? not sure about that. what I do know is that this beer is one of my favorites for sure. this is an all round good mix for a doppelbock. it’s just right on everything. this may just be the best beer I have had in the last few months and there have been many. everyone must try this one. rustbucket0873 (145), Krikville, New York, USA Feb 6, 2008 Updated: May 4, 2009This is a dark brown color, with a tan head. the smell is strong with malt and coffee. The taste is carmamel and sweet, with a very smooth finish. this is a great double bock. Grovlam (3790), Copenhagen, Denmark Feb 6, 2008 Bottle 33 cl. The excellence of German Doppelbock I thought was this Ayinger Celebrator. Have been looking forward to this beer for a long time, and big thanks go out to Ølbutikken for finally taking this fantastic beer home. Huge thick light brown head that really lasted. Excellent and lasting display of lacework in the glass. Clear mahogany color. The aroma was very complex with notes of bread, caramel, toasted malt and also heavy dried fruit mix. Hint of bubblegum and banana with a hint of coriander and wheat like notes. Over the palate comes almost chocolate and liquorish like notes. Very full bodied with an average carbonation and a thick texture. Heavy sweet flavor with light bitter notes. Lingering mix of bread and sweet liquorish like finish that lasted forever.
