GJF (480), Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA Feb 2, 2008 Mmmmm, celebrator. Incredibly wonderful beer, smooth, smooth malt flavor with an almost sherry-like alcohol warmth on the finish. Mmmmmm, celebrator. oldpainless (35), fort mill, South Carolina, USA Feb 2, 2008 What can you say that hasnt been said bout this one. Great in the bottle but even better on draft.THE industry standard of dopplebocks! Crafty07 (391), Florence, Kentucky, USA Feb 2, 2008 This makes everyone’s list, professional and amateur as the quintessential dopplebock for very good reason; it probably IS the best.
It’s impossible for the beer aficionado to find any fault with this beer. This is how a brewer makes a ’complex balance’ between the malts and hops. laguerita (111), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jan 31, 2008 Gorgeous color and aroma. Heavy and a tad syrupy, but not overly sweet. Absolutely delicious! BeerGestapo (725), Windsor, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 30, 2008 Updated: Jul 16, 2009(Germany) Wonderful Dark beer, With a Nutty / Fruit aroma. Med-Tan Head, Smoky spice / raisin / chocolate / molasses taste!!! Give this one a try, It is not for the average beer drinker. (Got a Nice Buzz from this one ) Brilliant stuff.......... :) Fin (3372), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Jan 30, 2008 Had this at the Ayinger am Platzl, Munchen, Germany 25-01-08 This was presented in the correct glass and looked an attractive beer, dark brown with a wonderful beige head and some sweet moccha on the nose. Complex in taste but lovely sweet molasses shone through as did a subtle warmth from the alcohol, the moccha comes skipping back through with milk chocolate and a dash of dark fruitiness for companionship. This was a great beer and easily one of my favourite Geman beers, althougheven this classic was soon to be ecipsed in the very next bar! blipp (1612), Newark, New Jersey, USA Jan 28, 2008 Bottle. Pours a very dark brown with a tan head. Sweet and malty nose with notes of caramel, fruit, and fresh bread. Medium full body. Flavor is roasted malt, coffee and fresh bread with some earthy notes and a bit of sweet caramel right up front. Long sweet and dry finish. One of my favorite beers. (My 100th rating!) MesandSim (5789), London, Greater London, England Jan 28, 2008 A Mes rate: Bottle at HogTownHarry Fest ’08 Wow. 90% crap all night and then this little beauty comes out. Not sure how this one has evaded me for so long but I’m very pleased to have finally got some. Very very dark brown with a lovely red hue and a good off white head. Aroma is easily some of the best German malt I have smelled. Gorgeous smoky and bready stuff with a fantastic earthy note. It’s rare I can sit sniffing for a while at a German beer but this REALLY works for me. Flavour... Love. Love. Love. Earthy, smoky, sufunkingpoib malt and an outstanding mouthfeel. Perfectly balanced, smooth and drinkable. You know the style, you have had many of these before but it is just perfectly done. The best bottled German beer I have had by some margin.
