daniellerose7 (119), new york, New York, USA Jan 28, 2008 This beer has one of the greatest aromas ever. So thick and grainy. I liked the full body, dark quality and presence of flavor. USCGamecock (4), USA does not count Jan 27, 2008 Couldn’t wait to try a beer rated in the 100th percentile. Not disappointed. Hard to find here in South Carolina, so my 4-pack may have not been the freshest. Absolutely no head when poured into glass. Still aroma was delicious. Oily and thick on the tongue. Starts out to taste like a sweet porter, but then finishes as a bock. Hope to one day savor in Germany fresh from the tap! Scauca (408), Lovere, Italy Jan 27, 2008 Nice aroma of malt, sweet, little roastiness. Well bodied, balanced, nice palate. fredandboboflo (1394), East Setauket, New York, USA Jan 27, 2008 Bottle. Complex aroma of raisins (but not as overpowering as the raisin aroma often is), fig, orange rind, spices. Flavor equally complex including the raisin again, some fruity wine-like characteristics, coffee as you make your way through the brew, and finally finishing with a long-lasting but at first subtle hop presence. Mouthfeel full and crisp, just what you want in any dark lager. Excellent. illidurit (851), Santa Cruz, California, USA Jan 26, 2008 On tap at The Red in Santa Cruz. Poured into the official Celebrator glass. Deep brown with ruby highlights and a fluffy light brown head that sticks around forever.
Yeasty, malty aroma with coffee grounds and dried fruit.
Toasty sweet malt flavors abound: coffee, milk chocolate, molasses, caramel. There is a slight hop flavor and a slight pepperiness. Fruity esters come into play with warmth.
Modest carbonation results in a big chewiness. Smooth and sweet. Drinkability is great. latneyblunk (40), Kentucky, USA Jan 25, 2008 Aroma is heavy with roasted malts and faint hops. Pours dark brown with a tan head that retains evenly and completely. Very satisfying sweet roasted flavors are balanced by a coffee like dry finish. Oily on the tongue, starts like a sweet stout and finishes like a bock. The balance here is amazing and allows me to get lost in the complexity (and alcohol). Zippo24 (11), Springfield, New Jersey, USA Jan 24, 2008 had been searchin high and low for this highly touted doppelbock and when i finally found it, i was not disappointed..
the rich dark color of the beer is a perfect reflection of the deep roasted malt flavors.. its very smooth and has a great finish.. instantly one of my favorites mixinnixon2000 (227), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jan 23, 2008 This beer was quite tasty with a lot of fruit notes. followed by good malts and hops
