bitbucket (1542), Kirkland, Washington, USA Jul 2, 2006 Pours a clear reddish brown with a lacy tan head. Full, syrupy body with fine carbonation. Taste of prunes, roasty malt, and a hint of smoke, like a really sweet sherry. Relatively quick, bitter finish.
Berserkir (27), California, USA Sep 5, 2008 Poured dark stout black with a fleeting brown head. Very rich malt aroma. Flavor is dark malts with a light bitter aftertaste followed by nutty mocha. Cybercat (399), USA Aug 30, 2008 This comes out of the tap a deep, opaque sable, almost like a stout or porter rather than a bock. Rich, malty aroma has undertones of chocolate and roast coffee. Flavor is smooth and malty, with some hop bitterness and a mocha undertone. There are hints of sweet, nutty and caramel flavors as well. Texture is smooth and pleasing, making for one lip-smacking bock. mnmwilson (5), Orange City, Iowa, USA does not count Aug 30, 2008 Poured very smooth with a nice head. Nice sweet aroma. Beer was thick but had a good mouth feel. The medallian on the bottle is a nice touch. I will buy more of this beer. llcooldave (161), San Antonio, Texas, USA Aug 29, 2008 I don’t know why this took me so long to get around to rating this but I finally picked one up. Pours black with a ruby red tint to it with a nice thick head that looks like root beer. Aroma of dried figs and herbs. Definitely a sipping winter beer. Thick and creamy on the palate, and taste of dried fruit finishing down the throat with a clean roasted malt component. I’ll definitely have to have this again in the winter time as August in Texas is not the right time for this brew. Excellent! durhambeer (411), Durham, North Carolina, USA Aug 29, 2008 Had the feeling this beer would be overrated... but nope, it’s a tasty one. Darker pour than the picture lets on. Dark brown pour with creamy tan head. Slightly roasty very malty flavor. Very concentrated biscuit, toffee, caramel, and molasses. Yum. A bit of cocoa and a nuttiness that’s not overwhelming. I will drink more of these, I’m sure.
