The aroma is strong, sweet with notes of prunes, brown sugar, citrus, coffee, malt, and bitter chocolate. The color is deep red-brown and it has a beutiful lasting light brown head. The flavor is sweet malty with very strong roasted notes; coffee, roasted bread, combined with caramel, alcohol, citrus, and more - great complexity. The alcohol runs prickling over the tongue and gives it a good palate.

Aug 19, 2008 Bottle in Boston at an Indian restraunt on Boylston right after the Yanks beat the Sox. Deep nut brown pour. Malts, carmel, more malts, sweetness, hint of raosting and bitterness. A perfect doppel. Nice dry finish. A fun beverage.

Aug 18, 2008 330 mL bottle. Pours dark brown with a medium light tan head. Aromas of dark fruits, caramel, alcohol, maybe a roasty hint. Flavor is dark fruits primarily, some caramel, chocolate, and light coffee, some bitterness, tiny bit of alcohol. Flavors combine nicely overall. Fairly clean finish with only a little chocolate/dark fruit hanging on. Very nice. I think someday I’ll need to cover a small Christmas tree with these little ornament things on the bottles.

Aug 15, 2008 On tap at Tylers, Durham. Truly one of the most glorious, perhaps the most glorious examples of this style. Wonderful dark pour with a thick, creamy head. The aroma is filled with smoky, rich sweet malts, and a trace of wood in the finish. Tastes just about like that, a hefty body delivering the flavors well, making it satisfying and oddly quite quaffable.

does not count  Aug 14, 2008 NICE!!!! Everything about this beer is quality. The appearance, scent and taste are phenomenal. Quite drinkable for a higher ABV, however the alcohol doesn’t overpower the beer. Name is worthy of the product---

Aug 13, 2008 Bottle at home ... Deep brown ... thin off white head... woody toffee meaty malt nose ... deep rich toffee ... and id confirm the teriyaki hints how very odd but it works very well ... smooth and soft ... little alcohol in back but only a little...
