Very good Marzen. drjay44 (757), Salida, Colorado, USA Aug 18, 2009 500 ml. bottle. Pours a thin white head, over a slightly cloudy Pale amber (SRM 8-9) body.....nose is very malty, with cereal, carmel, some spice notes....tastes primarily of sweet malts, with soft caramel, toffee, cereal, somewhat sweet throughout....mouth feel is light and soft, carbonation low. Meets the style exactly. drowland (1360), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Aug 13, 2009 Light color for the style with a nice retaining head. Aroma and taste of malt and crackers, less sweet and caramelly than others. Hints of roasted malts. b33r (363), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Aug 9, 2009 A favorite oktoberfest beer of mine with strong malt flavors. Crisp and refreshing to drink. MrRoss (614), Delta, British Columbia, Canada Aug 7, 2009 I liked the light amber colour of this one, likewise the good-sized white head. Aroma was of both malt and hops. The taste was again malt and hops, nicely balanced, crisp, clean, and refreshing. Rciesla (3500), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Aug 6, 2009 Bottle. Pours an orange copper body with a white head. Caramel malt hints of honey and earth y floral notes. Lighter citrus dried fruit with bread y notes. Nice. otakuden (518), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Aug 4, 2009 A brilliant orange with faintly darker hues of brown and amber. She is crowned by a soft, creamsicle head which lingers long into her final moments while commemorating our time together with small patches of lace. My first whiff of her nose bursts and crackles with fresh butterscotch candies, white bread crackers, candied fruit, crunchy apples, pears, and oranges. Delicate and subtle, her aromas are woven together in an intricate network of finesse and skill. In the background, toasted malts are drizzled with fresh honey. Her nose is balanced exquisitely, but how will her palate hold up? Clean, and only of medium-weight, she lightly coats my mouth in a soft butterscotch glaze while toasted bread settles into the background. Cinnamon sticks and powdered cinnamon add a dry breath of spice to balance the malty sweetness. As I bite into her crisp peaches and pears, their juices trickle down my throat while their skins add a brisk acidic nip for a playful measure. In the background, further soothing notes of butterscotch and maple linger into her finish while her fruits sit squarely in the middle. Deliciously dry, brisk, and bright, as I enjoy the last of my Ayinger Oktoberfest, I feel an honored witness to living history.
Ayinger never fails to impress me with their constant consistency and quality of beers. They may not win any awards for originality, but what they do best is bring their beers of ancestry to life, honoring long-standing traditions and tastes. Never think about whether or not to bring home an Ayinger beer, just do it.
