Gregis (1132), Shawnee, Kansas, USA Sep 30, 2007 Pours a sparkling clear amber with a frothy beige head. Nice lacing. Clean bready malt on the nose with faint earthy hops hiding in the background. Light to medium bodied and slick (almost creamy) with a crisp, clean finish. There is just a whisper of metal at the finish. Solid toasted bready malt sliding to a lightly sweet note before toggling back to the breadiness and a crisp, light hop finish. IMO it’s lightly better than Paulaner (more complex) and is my favorite Märzen to date. cheapdark (2011), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 30, 2007 On tap at the Sharp Edge Bistro. Slight haze to this otherwise ubiquitous pale yellow looking beer. Big foamy creamy head that hangs for a while after settling. Not much aroma but it does have a very slight wet rag mustiness to it. Taste impact is one of the better fest beers I’ve tasted. It lacks the strong bitterness that is associated with the higher rated fest biers. Barely any carbonation. Well mannered and friendly, very civilized. Finish has just a tad of mild well controlled malt bitterness and even hesitate to describe it as bitter. Its just simply present. Although very good, as I recall, it’s not up to snuff when compared to Hacker O’fest. jstraw (750), Chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 29, 2007 Golden amber with decent creamy white head / Simple, weak malt nose / Light body with some finish / Flavors of lightly sour malt with burnt sugar finish / Mediocre. emerica56 (575), Bristol, Rhode Island, USA Sep 29, 2007 This beer pours a massive head and has a golden amber color to it. There are smells of nuts and toffee malt. as you drink it it has a bitter toffee flavor with mild hops on the back of the palate. It is mildy spicy with nice fall smices like pumkin and hints of all spice. CasperQuaffer (142), Casper, Wyoming, USA Sep 29, 2007 Aroma is combination fruit, honey and buttered toast. Quick open head with light amber color. Flavor hoppy with pine and grapefruit predominant, some honey-fall fruit, maybe peach. Palate is light, with some caramel and tartar. This is a good October beer, saved by the hops from being mediocre. Wegro (218), Fresno, California, USA Sep 28, 2007 Pours a nice copper with a bubbly head. Lively carbonation, bready, some mild frutiness. Nice hops in the finish. Maybe a little too light. I would have liked some more malt in this one. Stine (1380), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Sep 28, 2007 Tap at Pizzerria Paradiso. Golden, rusty orange color, and transparent. Some salty pungency on the nose and a wisp of garlic. Pears and apples in a caramel soak. Tinny flavor with the disposition of thin maple syrup. The subtle presence of toasted honey malt is chewy enough to leave a firm smack of its sweetness, which lasts a while. Crisp fruit flavors and hushed floral tones provide accent. Watery texture with a sharp carbonation bite; it could stand for more density. Fitting; a refreshing autumn quaffer. skoll (123), Traverse City, Michigan, USA Sep 28, 2007 Big head on the pour and nice light brown color, good malt flavor, slight sweet after taste. I would get this one again
