Commercial Description:
Ayinger Oktober Fest Märzen has a deep golden color tinted with amber. It is lightly sweet with a malty nose balanced with floral hops. Its medium to big body and alcohol is not overpowering. The soft dryness comes from long maturation.

Pour copper with a nice sized off white head. Aroma is bready toffee and caramel malt. It is rich, but not as sweet as most oktoberfests. Medium / full body with a decent amount of carbonation. Starts with toffee and caramel, rich biscuity like malt. The finish has some hoops adding spice. There is a linger mix of toffee and spice. This is an excellent example of the Marzen style.

Aroma jumps out at you. Very strong carmel, reminds me of molasses somewhat. Translucent orange body with several fingers worth of head. Very full body. Malt and carmel dominate the flavor. Some roasty presence. Some hops there, but this is definitely a malt-forward beer. Unfortunately, there’s just a hint of that roasted vegetable taste in it, I think. Goes away as you drink it. Not the best octoberfest I’ve had (as a result of the slight off-flavor, as well as the flavor not being as full as it could), but definitely one of the best. I wish I could find it on tap, since I’ve heard it’s exquisite that way.

Bottle 500ml. Pours amber gold with very fine haze. Neat large creamy head on top. Fine fresh grassy hop aroma, candy sweet malts beneath, rose somewhere between. Very soft texture, a bit of rye bread and sweet pale malts. Good gentle bitters at edge, maybe just a bit too creamy to claim its greatness.

Tap at St Urhos, Helsinki. Looks like a thick mead. Thick white foam. Aroma of some thick, dark Finnish bread I can’t quite place. Taste of dark malt, trickled sugar and a bit sour aftertaste. Not really my cup of.. .er... beer.

500 ml bottle. Drank on 8/14/06. Very clear copper. 1+" light tan lumpy head. Drops fairly quickly to a ring. No lacing. Aroma - Spicy, some orange citrus, a little sweetness. Fairly strong. Flavor - fairly high up front bitterness. Kind of cold and lagerlike on the tongue. Spicy and sweet orangy flavors come out in the swallow and finish. Fairly dry finish. Palate - pretty light and fairly high carb. Overall - OK. I haven’t had too many O’fests, but this one seems a little overly orangy. I guess other than that it’s alright, but not too exciting.

sweet malt aroma. Hazy golden color. very malty smell. A very demanding chewy beer but still very balanced and light. The coolest part of this beer is the bottlecap.

On tap at Mahars. Poured a beautiful orange with a great white head. Aroma was spicy sweet. Flavor extremely balanced and sweet, with a spicy taste and a thick mouthfeel, so very good.

17 oz bottle. Clear pale orange with pink. Big, dirty-white head settles to a berg. Odd nose of half sour pickle; touch of soap, faint clove. Biting carb leads to sour apple and mild burnt caramel. Some spices, sweet lips. A nice drinker with a well rounded mouthfeel.
