On tap it is absolutely spectacular, but it loses some of its freshness when bottled. jkwalking05 (1485), Arlington, Texas, USA

Pours a clean, clear brownish orange color with a small white head that receeds to a ring. Nose is a very nice, clean caramel sweet malt with a light honey note to it. Fresh bicuits. Palate is crisp with a fizzy note in the finish. Flavor is a nice toasty biscuit with a light caramel sweetness. Finishes lightly filmy with a nice crispness. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 22, 2006 17 oz bottle. Clear pale orange with pink. Big, dirty-white head settles to a berg. Odd nose of half sour pickle; touch of soap, faint clove. Biting carb leads to sour apple and mild burnt caramel. Some spices, sweet lips. A nice drinker with a well rounded mouthfeel. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 14, 2004 Deeper golden color, off white head. Doughy malt, slightly earthy with a bit of toastiness. Medium bodied and fairly dry. It was ok but not all that great. I expected a bit more from Ayinger. SamGamgee (1463), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 2, 2007 Tap at Ayinger resturant in Munich on 9-29-07. Didn’t drink a whole maß of this oktoberfestbeir, but I wish that I had! Absolutely unique and superior to all the Munich oktoberfestbiers; what I imagine a märzen was originally like when they started serving them at the festival. Cloudy orange amber color with a big off-white head. Sweet malty aroma with lots of fruity mellon and yeast. Sweet, thick and fruity with a suprising bitter finish to round it off. I want more of this. Jokes (1453), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 21, 2003 A clear amber body with a white, fully lacing head. The is full of sweet malty goodness. Whole grains, doughy bread, lightly toasted character. Full and smooth in the mouth. Slightly crisp finish, the hops provide light bitterness and a spicy tingle. This was one tasty Marzen and a great beer for one of the first days of fall.
