Commercial Description:
Ayinger Oktober Fest Märzen has a deep golden color tinted with amber. It is lightly sweet with a malty nose balanced with floral hops. Its medium to big body and alcohol is not overpowering. The soft dryness comes from long maturation.

Fresh bottle from Sam’s. Pours more deep gold than orange, with an abundant head and some decent lacing. Toasty malts and mild hops on the nose. Some bread and mild citrus as well as apricot. Slight gravel taste, but in a good way. Actually, this is quite bready/toasty with a rich sweet finish and full body. Best marzen out there, perhaps... that’s what the ratings say, and I don’t think I can disagree.

Bottle: Hazy copper with some light red highlights and a small white head. Aroma is bread crust, doughy malt, light caramel and raisins, and a hint of sweet dark fruit (plum, fig). Taste is very slightly tart bread dough, then sweet malt, light acidic caramel, a hint of slightly stale floral hops, dates, and a bit of spicy citrus & yeast. Medium bodied, medium spritzy carbonation. Finish is somewhat dry with notes of spicy hops and bready malt.

Tap at some North Seattle bar and grill.

Pretty amber pour, pretty off-white head. Soft malty aroma with hints of fruit; lovely flavor of whole wheat just out of the oven, light orchard fruits, a decent hop touch in the close. Full-bodied rather than ultra-sesionable yet easier to quaff than 95% of the local stuff. Pretty darn classic.

Up front is a healthy serving of malts in the aroma. Thats a good start for a Marzen. Head is fluffy and structured with huge bubbles. Flavor is remarkably sweet and has almost a ginger bread background. Sign of lightly toasted malt and a very light dash of spice. The best Marzen iv’e ever tasted from a bottle.

Bottle. Hazy amber body with a large, frothy, off-white head, mostly lasting. The aroma is mostly malty with strong notes of sweet caramel and lighter notes of toasted bread, flowers and peach. The flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately bitter and lightly acidic. Medium body with a creamy texture and lively carbonation. The taste starts malty sweet, crisp, clean and turns nicely bitter. Nice balance. Excellent Oktobefest.
