German beer never fails to impress in the appearance department. It just looks like a beer should. On the nose I get spicy hops, sweet malt notes, biscuit dough, grapefruit, lemon zest and floral notes. Fore is lightly astringent, with the hops and bready notes dominating. Back of the tongue brings more malt sweetness into play, as well as the citrus hints. Palate is creamy and medium bodied. Finish is sweet bread dough and hops, medium length and refreshing. Great beer. Jmichael (633), Asheville, North Carolina, USA

Palate: Medium bodied. Medium carbonation. Overall: A good, traditional representative of the style. Very drinkable. ruggedman (626), Portland, Maine, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 25, 2006 Pours a amber color with a slight haze to it. Smells and tastes a aweful lot like a saltine cracker. Biscuity nose and taste with a malty, and wheaty aftertaste. Not really any hops in this one that i can taste. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 18, 2003 On tap, clear orange-brown. Malt, hops, honey in the aroma. Medium body, I taste honey again, full malt backing, very drinkable, slightly roasted flavor as well. Much better than I expected, but I shouldn't be surprised considering it's Ayinger. noncaloric (625), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 21, 2008 Clear amber-orange pour with a big dense tan head that leaves generous lace. Aroma strongly yeasty and malty with a twist of green apples. Flavor is very yeasty and bready, with a little citrus, gumball, and clove. A slight metallic tang was sometimes detectable, but this was the only off element. Medium bodied, well carbonated, crisp mouthfeel. jetzler (622), oklahoma city, Oklahoma, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 12, 2006 Bottle 48F Lager Glass. Nice copper malt smells, a touch of hops, the malt smells very nice. Very bright orange color, with a frothy head looks very good. Good rich sweetness, nothing to strong similar to light brown sugar. Good royal hops characters, well balanaced very well balanced, very nicely done. Really very tasty. Great palate balance of carbonation and rich full feel. I really like this one, probably should be the definition of an oktoberfest, is Ayinger not one of the best breweries in the world? Do they make a bad beer? I haven’t tried a bad one yet. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 23, 2002 Right on!! Perfect marzen style. Rich, malty, a touch of roast, full body. My only complaint is that the nose didn’t do this beer much justice. Very thin aroma. The flavor I enjoyed so much that it didn’t matter. Highly recommended, particularly at octoberfest time.
