Commercial Description:
Ayinger Oktober Fest Märzen has a deep golden color tinted with amber. It is lightly sweet with a malty nose balanced with floral hops. Its medium to big body and alcohol is not overpowering. The soft dryness comes from long maturation.

Aroma is nice, with smells of malt and damp earth. The appearance is clear dark amber, not as orange as most Oktoberfests, with a small head that dissolves rapidly. The flavor is balanced away from the malty sweetness that many of the style display, but is still very nice. It is a crisper, dryer flavor, with some hops, but still shows a nice malt. It’s almost like a cross between a German-style Pilsener and a normal Oktoberfest. The palate is average, with the carbonation being a bit harsh at the outset, but it settles down in a few minutes. Overall it’s a nice beer, but I don’t like it as well as most of the Oktoberfests out of Munich. I prefer the thicker, maltier style of those brews to this crisper version, but this would probably be favored by most ale lovers.

Bottle. Doughy, sweet malt aroma. Hazy, amber with a fluffy off-white head. Nice lace. Very flavorful for only 5.8% ABV. Malty and moderately sweet. I can imagine how good this would be fresh from the tap. I may just have the opportunity to find out next Friday as a local German pub is serving it for their Oktoberfest kick-off. A little sweeter than I prefer, but better a little too much flavor than not enough. And frankly, it’s dead on to style.

Rerate Still a damn good Oktoberfest - probably one of the best commercially available ones out there. Original 3.9 Had on tap at the Ginger Man in Austin. One of the better Oktoberfests I have had to date. Mellow light orange appearance, tight, but frothy off white head, thick lacing. Slight aroma of sweet bubblegum and caramel. Flavor has a cotton candy sweetness to it that is quite enticing. Backed up by a strong malty nuttiness as well. Lacks that vegetable flavor that some Oktoberfests seem to dwindle down to in the aftertaste, this one stays strong and sweet to the finish. Mouthfeel and thick and creamy. Excellent example of the style.

Poured with a very large white head. The body is a rich golden color with copious amounts of slow bubbles in the beer. The aroma is malty with leaves, apples and some nice whesat bread. The taste is full and has some slight roasted maltiness in the finish. The mouthfel is creamy and somewhat thin at teh same time. The tastes remind me of hay, bread and maybe a hunt of peaches. A fairly nice brew that I certainly appreciate more than many of the Ofests I have tried. Not as rich, yet I like the lack of caramel that tends to overpower some of the others.

Right on!! Perfect marzen style. Rich, malty, a touch of roast, full body. My only complaint is that the nose didn’t do this beer much justice. Very thin aroma. The flavor I enjoyed so much that it didn’t matter. Highly recommended, particularly at octoberfest time.

A very malty Oktoberfest beer and very flavorful. Not much in terms of hoppiness in this brew, since the nutty caramel character of this brew overshadows everything else here. I like this brew, but make sure you’re a malt fan if you try it.
