Commercial Description:
Our Ayinger Ur-Weisse is an old-fashioned wheat with some fine roasted malt to give it more color and flavor than golden hefe- weisse. It has an immense crown of lovely foam held proudly above a robe of translucent amber. On the palate, malt and yeast predominate, with a delicious balance of fruit and bread-like yeast. The taste is complex, with suggestions of soft fruit, apple, and, in the finish, perhaps, even cloves.

Bottle. Ayinger never disappoints. Lovely dark brown unflitered appearance. Slightly better than the Franziskaner Dunkel Weiss. Drinkable and subtle. Treat yourself!

Bottle. Pours cloudy orange/amber. Quickly disappearing white head. Bananas, a hint of spice and some strong yeast on the nose. Slightly thin and metallic on the palate. Flavors of roasted malt, dry/spicy yeast, clove and banana. Not too bad. Quite drinkable.

Rated 12/30/06: Lightest dunkel weizen I’ve sampled but it’s no slouch. Rich yeasty aroma very nice and fruity with some mild spice, mostly banana and clove but there’s some lemon and orange worked in there. Murky deep orange pour with some slight copper coloring, huge wheat head (as to be expected), and mild lacing. Mouthfeel was on the thin side, but a creamy finish evened it out to average at best. Good welcoming flavor of mild banana and spice. German wheats are a wonderful thing and Ayinger makes some fine examples.

I poured this cloudy orange/brown ale into my 50cl glass and admired its generous head, which slowly dissolved. As Mr. Rain pointed out, the huge aroma of bananas and cloves was very present in the taste as well. As I emptied the glass I noticed the yeast elements and the slight tartness on the end. This is a great beer to have anytime.

500ml bottle poured in a weizen. My weizen glass is opaque so I can’t really see this beer. It has a huge creamy frothy head though. It smells wonderful. I found vanilla, yeast, banana, clove, and faint green wood. Oh boy! I’m excited. The frothy head ensures I don’t rush this beer. I have to pour slowly and wait, pour slowly and wait. The anticipation is immense. The way this beer smells has my mouth watering. Finally! The whole beer is poured. I wonder how full this glass is. I can’t see through it. The first mouthful is fruity and surprisingly carbonated. It leaves a sweet, soft, ripe fruit feeling in my mouth, like apples or soft pears. The second mouthful brings out a complex mix of yeasty fruit that somehow manages to have a tart bite. This beer is very refreshing. It is a real thirst quencher.

Pours a nice cloudy amber-brown, forming little foamy head. Aroma of yeast, lemons and malted apple fruit. Flavor is bold, biscuity malts, fruits come threw. Nice easy drinking beer.

Bottle: Wow reddish brown but not really, the color is so mystical to me, the off white cream head was just topping on this cake. The aroma of wheat and fruit is wonderful. The taste is roasted malt and fruit that bites at the taste buds. This has to be one of my favorite German beers. I cannot imagine why this is not closer to a 4 on the scale!

Rich fruity aroma and flavor make this one enjoyable beer. Cloudy amber body below an off-white, slowly dissipating head. Nose is dominated by fruity banana, but there are notes of grain, hay, spice, caramel and citrus. Flavor is sweet and only delicately bitter in the finish. Light to medium body with lively carbonation. The aromas and flavors work well together. Delicious.
